Getting Dam Dry!

Here in N.E. Iowa it has gone from wet to hot and dry. We had some bald spots on the pond dam so I took a chance and put some $5 a pound grass seed, some fert. and fresh dirt down. Now with no rain we have been watering it. The first time I took my generator and a sump pump with a garden hose hooked to it but that took 2 hours to water it. My buddy used to work at a place that built and worked on LP gas delivery trucks. He gave me a 200 ft. outdated hose off of 1 of the trucks they worked on years ago and I had it stored in our water truck. I got it out and made us a nozzle and took my pump and now we water in style. Took the watering down to 20 min. We use the Gator to drag the hose. Works good and the wife is happy.---Tee

Yes...the weather now is similar to last year. Great if you are going to the beach or sitting around the pool, although it is mostly cool. I am feeling real bad for those in my area that are planting still. Last year I was one of them and I had about half my crop never come out of the ground. Almost no rain until mid July. This year I have an excellent stand from an early planting but it is not growing much now without a little more moisture. Not real worried, the roots are deep and the plants will wait it out. Last year anything I could coax out of the ground early enough made it to the July rains and was in decent shape.

As you already know, in the upper Midwest seeding grass works the best in the Fall after Labor Day and in the Spring as soon as the snow melts.

After September's Junkshow it was too wet to close the ruts we cut during our "Rain Feature" at Junkshow. This spring was about the same until our recent run of dry. We had about a 3 day window to fix, prep, and seed. I planted trees in mud 2 weeks ago and now I'm watering often to keep up. Looks like it's going to the 90's this weekend. That'll make me and the trees thirsty.

That reminds me of the drag hose system that custom manure applicators use to cover a field...except that your product smells fresher!

Getting dry here to. Dad waters the sweet corn out of the ponds. I want to put in a pivot but hes afraid I will suck the pond to low and mess up his fishing!
