Bush Hog Vs Flail

A pic I took yesterday of a field I cut the day before with the 3008 (8') Bush Hog. Notice the lack of rooster tails... I cut this 9 acres in just under 3 hours. Field to the right is where the random act of kindness occurred :)

Looks good.

Currently in the market for a mounted 8' twin spindle rotary cutter to replace the 10.5' Woods cutter that I sold this past week.

Both Bush Hog and Woods are on my list. Land Pride is not.

Also considering a 12'-15' bat wing for use with my Kubota M9960, but leaning heavily toward the 8' mounted cutter.

How tall was it?I'm currently mowing 3 foot high grass and weeds and the flail mower (918H New Holland 74 inch)does a much better job than my 717 John Deere, the JD does fine on shorter stuff but tends to leave
some on taller stuff.Running both in 2nd gear same tractor.

You can see uncut grass/weeds between me and the truck, probably 12-20", not real heavy. I did heavy stuff later and dropped down a gear. I was not impressed with the cut from the Deere mX8 that I had before this one. The Bush Hog has sharper uplift blades and pockets welded under the deck to create turbulence which I think helps get a good cut. Right before the job on the right I was doing some land clearing futher north chopping up 3" diameter pine trees...

Doesn't look to me like there was much to cut.

I have 5', 6', 7', and (recently sold) 10.5' rotary cutters, used with tractors dedicated to each cutter.

All are set as close to the ground as possible without creating furrows with the skid plates and all are often used to cut heavy cover.

I cut as fast as possible with all, the limiting factor usually being the mower's ability to clear. HP quickly becomes the limit if the mower does not clear well.

All leave significant debris behind, and I sometimes, depending upon conditions, find it necessary cover the ground again at a higher speed to prevent molding debris from killing the cover below.

No, I do not mow commercially.

Dean since I sell all three just wonder WHY you say you are not considering the LANDPRIDE over the other two>?? Is it price or some experience you have had with Land Pride?

I started out with the Landpride 6' and would put about 400 hours on them, sell and buy a new one. That was when I was only putting around 150 hours a year on them. I thought they were a decent cutter and definitely got my monies worth at around $1600 for a new one. The Bush Hog 3008 is right around $6500...a lot of money for the extra 2', but I have had this one for 6 years now and probably have 1500 hours on it with no problems. I have another I bought two years ago that I use on another tractor...bought it when I was told they were discontinuing the 3008. Last year I ran over 350 hours on this one, only expense was fuel and $145 for a set of blades. Try that with a flail!
