Tractors heading South

There are several dealers buying up the nicer looking 100 hp and bigger tractors and shipping them state side . The market for these older tractors is very soft here , and a 25 -30 year old Alis , Mf, White ,Case, and Ford tractors, as well as imports like Duets , can be be bought for 10 grand or less . Usually much less . While IH , CaseIH , and JD tractors still command a better price .
Dealers claim with the low Canadian dollar , and the declining number of farmers the market for these tractors , isn't in Canada . Farmers that are buying the 100 plus hp tractors are either buying late models , or new with warranty, and of course leasing is also popular with many . The cost of parts and repairs , combine with the fact parts for many tractors are now not available from dealers , is making farmers here in Canada shy away from older tractors.
Getting so you don't want to spend too much into repairs on a older tractor, because you will never get the money back . The simple tractors without power shift tranys , seem to hod their value better as well. When 4 new tires can equal half the value of a tractor, there is some thing wrong.

Big market down here for those tractors down here. You go to an auction and find semi's with Mexican registration all over the place. Makes it hard on us locals as they drive up the price. Even at that we can buy a nice tractor a lot cheaper down here than I see on this site prices up North of me.

Traditional Farmer,
The farmers around my place down south of town have new shinny Green and Red tractors/equipment. Of course they farm thousands of acres. Are third and fourth generation farmers.

They have grain dryers, irrigation. Recently converted pumps over to electric. They have big bucks and buildings to put their new shinny equipment in.

There are some part time farmers, those that have a job and farm with used equipment on weekends. They use the old stuff.

You never will get your money back on repairs.

The only thing that makes repairing the old tractor economically viable is that it's still cheaper than a new one. Used tractors are always a gamble; you're always buying the last guy's problems.

That's right. The old stuff at Brindley sits forever, the better equipment never even gets off the truck. Where in the heck do they find all that stuff? Ben

Ah, you are familiar with the Brindley selection of fine equipment . Dungannon yard ?

Another issue is that parts and service cost is waaay higher in Canada than in the US or Mexico. Just another factor driving the small and medium size farmers out of business here in Canuckistan. Pretty soon there will be no economy left up here.

They actually employ 3 people who's job is searching for equipment online and auction sales. I've posted stuff on kijiji and had them contact me with a really low offer, but they will offer cash on the barrel head so some might be tempted. Never been a fan of them. The one I can't figure out is Stone Age farms by Mitchell with the junk they have and the unbelievably high prices they charge, who buys their stuff?

That's what the neighbor paid for his 4020-D Synchro-Range side console with Year-a-Round cab in fall of '68. The M&W turbo a year later was another $1000.
