Yesterday's Car

Not a tractor but yesterday's car. I had the Merc out for a bit of long overdue exercise a couple of evenings ago. I thought the long
shadows and dark clouds made quite a good background for a photo.

Local towing company is adding the Ford to the fleet.

Is that going to be renamed Tow-Mater? Very cool wrecker. And the South Bend truck should make a great project. joe

Brings back memories of a '52 Merc I once owned. My mother totaled it while I was overseas.

Got a flathead six from a 46 Stude 1 1/2 ton truck. Took it out 40 years ago and replaced it with a Chev 265 bored to 301. The flathead has been in the corner of the shed ever since. The 46 truck is here too.

Back when cars where kept simple. The know age of listing at noises and driving down the road for trouble shooting problems. Real craftsmanship inside and out side. One time in my life I had a really cool car I had a PACKARD that had a straight eight engine in it. I had called it the tank. It was a car handed down to me from a friend a big four door town car. I later traded it for a Cougar.

Very nice photo! What year is the Merc? Had '67 M100 Mercury pickup same as F100, must have come from Canada originally. Always liked going down the road with MERCURY embossed on tailgate--don't see that often in the states.

Its a 52. Very similar to the 53 models but the 52 is more rare since there were not as many made due to the Korean war. That also explains the poor quality chrome plating on 52 model cars.
Yes, lots of Mercury trucks around here when I was a kid. I think my uncle had at least one in his custom trucking years. Likely a 600 series. I've got that 49 M68 truck still sitting in my yard soaking the cylinders in hopes of un-seizing it.

That M68 is a neat truck--lots of style for what was basically a work truck. Good luck getting it unstuck, always glad when someone revives a piece of old iron ;-)
