8N Pressure Plate

Will the original throwout bearing compress a diaphram style pressure plate? I have a V6 engine in an 8N with a diaphram pressure plate and the throwout bearing will not release the clutch disc.

I am not an 8n expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I think the throw out bearing should work, BUT, you may need to do a little customizing and modifying of the clutch linkage.

I adjusted the linkage for maximum throw but the throwout bearing still will not depress the pressure plate. It somehow hangs up as if the fingers get caught in the bearing.

That is just something you are going to have to look closely at and see what is going wrong.

No way to get an answer on something like that without some dimensions, pictures, even then it would be impossible to consider all the possibilities.

Just part of the fun of customizing!

Don't know anything about your Ford but some GM cars had a short or a long throw out bearing. Some even had a long or short fork pivot in the bell housing.

After clamping down the clutch pedal I turned the engine with a breaker bar and heard scraping at the pressure plate. Pullng the engine I could see a lip extending above the throwout bearing. That lip hit the very tip of the fingers and would not let the bearing touch the pressure plate. I'll shave the lip and see if the bearing releases the clutch plate. See pictures.

Was curious, found the old clutch out of my little Farmall, carrier is below edge of bearing and fingers were riding dead center on brg. Even if yours didn't have the high brg. lip the diaphragm pp plate fingers shouldn't be able to reach that area should they.
