Finally got started and...

I finally got started planting beans. I say finally, but we are usually not really rolling here until June. The weather has been perfect, though.

Anyway, I finally got rolling and got the kinks worked out with two nice days in the tractor. I felt like I was making something happen. Yesterday I looked at the forecast and it is supposed to rain every other day now for a week. They just keep raising the chances. Did I mention that the last hour I planted yesterday the air conditioner went out on the planting tractor? I'm just amazed that tractors built in the last 20 years only have about two windows that open enough to make you wish hurricane strength winds were blowing. I opened the door and ate so much dust it was insane. I kind of longed for the open station days when the dust could at least blow past you, not swirl in that steamy cab like flour in a crock pot.

Looks like I'll have a few days for mother Deere to come out and put a compressor on the planting tractor. I guess I did get 8000 hours out of the original.

Bad situation. And the worst is that the newer tractors have so much glass that it is a real greenhouse in there. My old 2090 Case I can work quite a while without ac if the day is not too hot. But the newer CIH magnum is just too hot without it. Even in Sask. !

Glad I don't have to pay the bill to fix that. My cousin said he had to have them come out and change the water pump on his 6410. Said the bill was $1150.

Funny how how the ac's go out when you want them. Cab relay went out on mine yesterday. Didn't have a spare or time to drive 30 miles for one. I hate a dusty cab so I left the windows shut. I figure thats good motivation to get it fixed as soon as possible.

My IH 1586 has never had working AC. I get REAL warm in there some days. Usually it is cooler weather when I am out on the big tractor as I only use it for tillage and planting but this year two days in a row near 90, real dusty, all the windows cracked, shirt off. That is about as dirty as i have ever been. Hopefully the rain in your forecast is like here, slight chance and widely scattered.

Them fellers across the pond seem to do a better job getting to winders to open up, that 399 I have here the back window opens all the way out and then can open the roof hatch and is very pleasant to drive in hot weather with no AC!

Just a comment on the A/C. You may consider getting what you need from AP Air. You can get a new A6 compressor rather than reman compressors that have been rebuilt 10 times. (this is assuming you have a Sound Gard era tractor) You can also convert to a Sanden for what will likely be similar cost to Deere, and you're getting an OE Sanden. I have no affiliation with AP Air, but have used stuff sourced from them with good luck.
