Hello folks I have a MM Z that is 1937 I bought recently. Someone used it for tractor pulling so they removed the generator. They have the original starter with a 6 volt battery. Problem is that it's hooked up negative ground and positive for power to the starter. Can I just flip the battery around and put it back to positive ground like it should be? Thanks in adavance.

Sure you can reverse battery polarity. If it has or you add a generator be sure to Polarize it before start up to match the battery polarity. If it has a working ammeter it may need its leads swapped if ??? polarity was changed from original. With a battery powered coil distributor ignition the coil needs wired at correct polarity, for POS ground the ignition switch feeds the coils - while the + wires to distributor, reverse that for Neg ground.

It came from factory positive ground, but will work equally well if properly configured for negative ground.

If you are just going to use a battery charger and not add a generator there is no need to change it.

If you add a generator, take notice of the regulator. If regulator specifies positive ground then change the system. If regulator specifies negative ground or either polarity you can use it as is. Polarize the generator before starting the engine.

If you switch to 12 volt with alternator it must be negative ground unless you use a specially modified alternator.

Other than originality there is nothing sacred about keeping it positive ground
