Diesel Fuel Storage Question

I bought a 60 gallon storage tank with a manual pump from guy who owns a garage. He used it to store clean motor oil. What should I clean it out with or should I just add off road diesel to it and use it as is?

unless you have a good filter on it I would use some of the diesel to clean it out, just to be sure

+2...... first off the oil would be good for lubricating the fuel system of your equipment and the ratio of oil in an empty container of any size vs the volume full is probably down in the "less than 1%"....hardly detectable.

I would make sure to put the first gallon into the tank on a larger tractor in order to dilute the oil in the pump.

If it was clean oil. No need to clean it out. When you think about it diesel is oil. So a little more isn't going to hurt anything. Will not be enough left in the tank to effect anything.

Dump the diesel to it will not hurt a thing . Back in the trucking days a lot of us when changing fuel filters we would use motor oil to fill the filters to prime then before we screwed the filters on . Back in the 80's we were getting alot of bad fuel everywhere , I pulled into a toll booth and when i shoved the clutch down to stop to pay the toll my truck just up and quiet , During rush hour no less and would not restart . I got a load of bad fuel and the filter plugged solid . Out of the truck opened the luggage compartment grabbed a new filter and a gallon jug of Delo 400 30 weight and the filter wrench . The ticket taker came out and was standing there screaming at me to get this truck out of his toll booth . Took the filter off and dumped a full filter of water out at his feet and said give me a min here . Filled the filter with oil screwed it back on closed the hood paid my toll and fired the truck back up and drove off. Drove to the next truck stop and cracked the cross over line between both tanks and drained off real close to ten gallon of water and changed the fuel filter again and did the same thing of filling the fuel filter with engine oil .
