1967 580 CK clutch shuttle issues

hey all, I purchased a 1967 580 ck backhoe with some neglect issues primarily a stuck clutch. the previous owner had inherited the beast stuck clutch and all and had made no attempts to free up. it was move-able by rocking it with the shuttle easy back and forth then dropping revs and slipping into gear. however i am a needy sort of person and decided to free the clutch. i could see through the sight hole on the rt side of the bell housing that it is a dry clutch and it has a significant amount of pad.the pressure plate moves so mechanically speaking i had two options to free the disk. 1 try to pry it free with a long putty knife probably what i should have done, or put it up on the riggers in 2nd gear and break free by dropping on to the spinning wheels. So opting for the latter and only doing it once mind you. I now have no movement in any gear or shuttle position. to get back to the seemingly quick fix, the engine stalled there was no loud bang or movement of the shuttle lever or shift stick. i did have the clutch pedal blocked in a depressed position and to my knowledge the disk is still stuck to the flywheel. I have all the manuals parts,service and owners. if anyone has any experience with that mouthful I would be gratefuland thanks for letting me bend your ear.
 
Hi If you got real lucky you sheared the rivets that hold the center boss in the clutch disc that drives the input shaft to the gear box. If the rivets let go the disc will still be stuck and the boss is just spinning free causing lack of drive. If you aren't lucky you probably sheared something else in the drive line. I don't personally know those case diggers I avoided cheap case's that needed fixing while looking for a machine here.


I do know clutches with sheared boss rivets after fixing guys tractors for 25 years Though.
If you can get to the bottom of the clutch housing see if you can find any fresh looking sheared rivet heads in there. that might give you a clue as long as they aren't left from a previous repair.

It wouldn't be the first time a tractor had a new clutch before I fitted one years later for a new owner. Then find there is half a smashed up starter nose buried in oil and gunk and they had never put a starter on it in their ownership. L.O.L.

Yikes! Like Robert stated I hope it is something simple, doing what you did is not advised at all by me, you could have broken a number of things,, if it was me and yes I have split many of them, I would remove the backhoe and backhoe mounts then with good support where needed I would split it at the bellhousing and roll the rear end out the back of the loader frame, then do what is needed to repair the clutch, with it split you can see if the clutch plate is the issue now or if not you can test where the problem is by turning the input shaft with the shuttle and trans in gear, on the pre 530CK/580 models I have seen a axle shear but seldom see that in the later ones but still possible if you do not find it from the clutch to the ring gear

Like others said, something broke...

Are there any easily removed inspection covers? If so, start opening it up, look to see what is moving.

Try to get to the area of the final drive, see if the ring and pinion are turning, see if the transmission is turning.

It will be nice to know what broke before going in to replace (or unstick) the clutch. That way you won't be putting something back together that will need to come apart again, or buying parts before deciding the problems are not feasible to repair.
 
Kind of late for this advice but here goes. My uncle bought a tractor with a stuck clutch when I was about 16, we got it running by pushing it and he yelled at me over from the push tractor drive around the farm till the thing frees up or runs outta gas. Lol I ran that thing all around for about an hour uphills down hills across logs nothing worked until I was heading back to the shed We had a wet fall and had rutted Up the fields I went across about 500 ft of rutted corn rows and it popped free. I think what did it was the rocking going up and down through the rows. That was probably 20 years ago and to my knowledge it's the same clutch.
