Electronic ignition kit small engine

Anybody here know a lot about the breakerless kits for small engines? I have to admit I am a little consused. I read many posts in many forum and am now even more confused.

I have several small engines that I am fed up with dealing with the points. Two small two-stroke-cycle outboard motors (1936 and a 1948). Also my 1980s vintage Tanaka two-stroke water-pump. Note the Tanaka is already breakerless but has ignition problems and no new OEM parts are available. I have a box with two-dozen new ATOM and Nova II breakerless kits that I had in new-old-stock from a dealership I used to work at. My confusion is the many different kits they made and what works with what. There used to be green, brown, blue, etc. modules for different engines. I do not have all the different colors. I know one kit used to be just for engines with coils that moved to advance timing. Others for coils that did not move. And more. I guess I could to this trial and error but would rather know what the heck I am doing first.

Cannot say on an outboard but the 7-01752 one you have pictured I have used on lawn mowers and tillers many time over the years and they work well on the old B/S engine I put them on. Have one on a old Murry rider that the tag on it says made in 1967 and the last time I tried to start it up it started like it had been run yesterday but it had sat for years

I don't know much about them. I an tell you though, that I had a 1973 Ossa trail bike with a CDI that seemed to be bullet proof. My next bike was a 1975, with a Sachs motor that had points. You had to be sure to take good care of those points.

More then 20 years. I put the first one on a tiller back in the late 80s or early 90s. I know when because I still worked at tracker marine in Lebanon MO and I worked there from 1986 to 1992.

Watch this video. Never mind the goofy stuff. This guy really knows his stuff. He will explain the 2 different styles of modules. He is using the one like you have. I have used those myself and work well.

I had a 1973 Ossa 250 Six Day Replica Enduro bike. I bought it used in about 1982-'83. It started right up
after cleaning the Mikuni carb the original owner put on it. I rode it a lot, close to 2000 miles. It
finally got hard to start, weak spark, was either weak magnets in the Motoplat ignition or weak coil. It
was a $1200- $1300 bike new, I paid $100 for it, and gave it away about 1991. The guy I gave it to still
rides a new KTM, bet he'd give me my old bike back if I asked and he still had it. No local Spanish bike
dealers, no Internet, not even much available mail order, closest Ossa dealer was 70-80 miles away and he
didn't stock much.
