Transplanting Asparagus

Looking for information on how to transplant asparagus. Wife would like transplant some from her sisters garden to ours. Thanks

Just dig up the crowns and relocate them. Make sure the soil PH is right. I did a bunch last year. Just have to try to get it done early. Here in northern Michigan - that would be now.

I saw where Asparagus was used in flower beds. Makes a beautiful bloom, weed control. I need to get some along with rubarb makes neat bloom.

We moved to northern Michigan from central New York three years ago. Dug up some of our asparagus, wild leeks, and rhubarb and transplanted here. Biggest problem was getting the soil right. NY was high acid and mucky. Here in northern MI is is sandy and alkaline to neutral. Asparagus crowns will grow anytime you plant them but you want to do in the Spring so they have time to grow a new root system. Asparagus was easy since our soil is already neutral. We just found a patch of now-wild and huge asparagus growing along the road near us. I assume once upon a time it was part of a farm. 10 feet from the edge of the road. I knocked on the door of the house there and the owner told me he just mows that area. He had no idea there was asparagus there and did not care either. He is letting us dig it up so we will transplant that too. We found the wild leeks (ramps) the most difficult transplanting project.

(quoted from post at 08:04:15 05/14/17) We had fresh wild asparagus for supper last night here at our cabin. There was never any buildings here until we built, so I assume it's wild.

I envy you.Wild asparagus is the best asparagus! When I lived on eastern long island we picked it from behind the beech's.Maybe the salt air made for a richer taste.
