Weeds and brush to pines and grass;

Am trying to convert weeds and brush to young pines and grass. Soil seems to be well drained and is in direct sunlight. Will have
tree stumps removed professionally. Area is about 12 ft by 150 ft. Am going to plant 3 ft arborvitae to make a hedge. Have a Golden
Jubilee. Live within 8 miles of large monthly farm equipment auction, so I can buy it and use it for a month before re-selling. How do
I prepare the ground for this? Thx.

12 ft x 150 ft isn't much ground to cover. Spray it with glyphosate (Roundup or generic) to kill that's there and rent a rototiller.

If there are any deer at all in the area plan on spraying the arborvitae about once a month with repellent. Even that might not be enough to keep them away in the winter; they love to browse on that plant.

If you disk the weeds, use a landscape rake and pull the grass roots off and pile up. Check soil ph. Use small 3 foot ATV disk to put small ridges in soil. Broadcast seeds. Water in with sprinkler. Water will wash seeds in low places. Grass Will come up like you planted it in rows. Water often. Cover with draw litter straw to retain moisture after it comes up.

That works for me.
