DANDELION KILLER....

I read John B's post about his weed killing machine last night and I thought I would share the one I built for my Gator. It is pretty simple-uses the $100 sprayer I bought years ago but now I finally added a 4 nozzle boom with 30 in. spacing so it takes 10 ft. I made the brackets so the boom can be taken off easy or I can hang it on the side so I could use the Gator normally. I teed the supply line to a 1/4 turn valve so I can still have full time pressure for the wand or turn the boom on only. I used it on the lanes to my pond two days ago and the dandelions are really nodding their heads. I calibrated so I am putting down a Qt. of 2-4d Amine per acre---we will see if that is enough.---Tee

This year our township used something like that to spray side ditches, but with a gas engine pump. Drove by our place about 10 mph and did a good job, no dandelions where they sprayed.

(quoted from post at 05:37:45 05/14/17) A person has totally run out of useful things to do when they take time and effort to kill Dandelions.

That and they are not following the news reports....they are saying now we should let the darned things alone that the bees need them.

I need to get my sprayer out. The wife seen a few spots of yellow yesterday. I have a 30 gal tank and 10' booms on my 4 wheeler. Wonder if see would get mad if I sprayed the yard with the Apache? Would on be one pass! May try to spray it this afternoon but after a concert till midnight and getting up early for church a nap may be first.

I kind of wonder WHY anyone wants to kill dandelions? What on earth to they hurt? I kind of like looking at them. My dad used to make wine from them (and it was awful stuff). Cannot blame the bad wine on the dandelion though.

I totally agree , back in the 80s we had around 150 acres of hay and I took pride in a good alfalfa stand , had worst winter kill ever that yr and coupled with a cold wet spring and need for feed for cows , we chopped all that hay which was 90% dandilions , the cows did very good production wish and I remember feed test came back very high in enrgy and protein was over 20%, we then planted corn but I was glad we waited to take the hay off first, , they really don't bother me much at all however the wife hates them

(quoted from post at 06:36:10 05/14/17) Yes spray the dandelions they serve no useful purpose. If you want bees plant clover.

now I know a gentleman that make a mighty fine dandelion wine..

I've had the best results controlling dandelions by spraying in the fall when the plants are done flowering and are drawing nutrients in to the roots. Spraying before then does not kill dandelions, it only keeps them from going to seed.
