There is interest in treating seed corn at the destination, so that each farmer can customize it for the conditions present at planting. The companies currently do this in the seed corn plant, with plans made before the end of the last calendar year. I am working for the seed corn companies this spring and hearing/seeing a lot of interesting things.

What are your opinions?

I wish more seed companies would offer seed treated with avipel, the bird repellent. We have a big problem here with sandhill cranes, and have to treat all the corn we plant.

Years ago we used a product named "CrowTox". Came in a small metal can. We dribbled over a few pounds seed in an old metal bread mixing pan. Kept pan just for that purpose. Stuff was nasty. Black, inky, like used diesel engine oil. Stained everything it came in contact with. But it kept the crows at bay. Mixed with other seeds prior to planting.

Anyone know if they still make Crowtox?

I think it only has Special Use Exemption in six states doesn't it? Last extension we got in Michigan was for something like four years. We're renewed for this year, but it expires in July already.
