Draft Horse Lovers

spacing is slightly off! The 2 in the middle are all on that row! I do love seeing this-my grandpa always had Belgians on his farm!

Nice video! Dad's still got his two Belgians that look like two in the video. Those horses in the video drive nice ! Dad's wander a little more when driving them. I am sure because they don't get worked enough. There has to be that bond between driver and horse! I drive dad's on occasion and they are much better with him driving.

When a horse is wagging its tail does that mean that it is happy like a dog? or angry like a cat? or something different?

It seems they trample all over the row at the end when he's turning around and also when he's lining back up. Is that just part of it you have to accept? It seems like they could do a lot of damage if you aren't careful.

Horses aren't very deep, psychologically speaking. Happy? Sad? Angry? Actually, switching tail means it is trying to keep the flies off his rump.

And regarding damage at the ends of the rows- that happens, regardless of whether horses or tractors. Because of the length of the planting outfit (tractor/horses + planter), there's about 20-30 feet at the end of the back and forth rows that won't be planted. So they take a couple of rounds around the field as they finish, so they'll have something at the edges rather than nothing. Damage from turning at the ends is a given, but its better to have something than nothing. Those horses probably caused less damage than a cultivating tractor (or a sprayer tractor) would have. Less well behaved teams might have been another matter.

That looks like a weeder he's pulling. A great tool for pulling out weed shoots that are emerging. Those tools won't pull out the plants that are rooted good. Used to use one on corn, strawberries and other row crops. A nice tool, rather than spraying.
