OT windshield wipers again.....

I know this has been posted on here before but I wanted to see what you guys thought. I have a set of bosh wipers on my little fun truck... Always stays inside a dark shop. Doesn't sit in the sun ever except for when it goes to shows or out to dinner once in a while... They have been used in the rain maybe twice. And they already suck. They've been on the truck 6 months tops. Thinking about Michelin next time? What do you guys run?

I bought some in Feb and they are already going bad. When I bought them I had not bought any for
many years when I paid for them I looked at him and asked if it was ok to pull my pants up now

Here is one I don't understand. I buy replacement wiper blades from any number of places. Most don't even last the summer. Then I bought a vehicle at an auction about 6 years ago. It has been my daily driver since. It still has the same wiper blades on it that were on it when I bought it, and they still work just fine. I'm afraid to replace them. Nothing I replace them with will be nearly as good!

I go to Carquest and buy "Exact Fits" because as their name says, they fit exactly the application. Next I periodically service my wiper
blades. Using a paper towel with rubbing alcohol, wipe the rubber blade and remove all the fine dust and oil that has come off the road. Wiper
blades need to be cleaned. Then the windshield gets a treatment of Rainaway or other surfactant. The rainaway cleans as it is being applied
and it fills the sandpitted microscopic pits in the glass making a smoother surface for the rubber blade to glide over. Winter driving is
hardest on wiper blades as all the grit and salt off the road gets on the surface of the windshield and it wears the rubber blades out
quickly. Clean them with alcohol, treat the windshield and they last a lonnnnng time !

Blame your car, not necessarily the wiper blades, we have had a couple of cars that would "park" the blades so they were lightly touching the windshield when turned off, those blades lasted a long time. Cars now days just keep the blades mashed against the windshield all the time and eventually the rubber on the blade folds over instead of sitting straight up off the windshield, when you turn them on, the rubber on the blades have to do a flip flop with each swipe and the rubber eventually breaks apart. Just one of the things where manufacturers are creating a cash flow cash cow to to keep profits up instead of building something to last. Typical of the way things are done today.

We also buy NAPA wiper blades. Can't think of the brand name, but the mid-priced ones hold up way better than the cheapest ones AND do a better job.

We also clean the blades periodically with alcohol wipes.

My 2013 pickup has the original on the
driver's side, I put a Bosch on passengers
side last fall...it chatters across the
glass. Not happy will be replaced a.s.a.p.

I bought Goodyear at Costco for the Tundra after many years with the originals. Goodyears are very stiff and won't bend to follow the windshield and leave strips that they miss.

My 2009 Camry was made in Japan with Japanese wiper blades and the originals are still good. Japanese hoses and belt last longed. Why can't the U.S.A. compound rubber that is better than the Asian hoses, blades, etc.?

Drove our first Toyota 13 years, hoses were still soft and pliable. Same with the Tundra after 14 years and expect the same with the Camry.

Like everything, everyone has an opinion. My son will only buy Bosche wiper blades. The others he has said don't last. I am going to switch over to the Bosche on the next set I buy. I will agree with cleaning the windshield. Road grime is nasty stuff. Between the dirt and grit you have all of the oil drips and rubber residue from all the cars on the road. Part of the deal is the manufacture's want you to buy wiper blades all the time. Why make some thing that lasts for years when you can make something that only lasts months and you can sell tons of them. More profit. I will agree that original wiper blades that came on my truck lasted way longer than any of the replacements I have put on since. I have discovered that not all OEM parts are that expensive. I think I will call the Dodge dealer and see what they want for a set of OEM wiper blades.,,

I use Gm on mine and clean with a rag and wiper
fluid , also apply RainX to windshield now and then,
also don't use them for ice scrapers like my wife
and kids do.

What happened to buying the blades alone instead of having to buy the whole arm assembly?

Second question, how can you be assured the ones you buy are newly put on the rack, not having been there for a loooooooong time?

We still have them at AutoZone. They hide in the back. Just cheapies. Between $7 and $10 for a pair depending on length. Not every frame is built to accept the refills though.

If you put a piece of 400 grit on a sanding black you can renew thee edge of any wiper. Old Car Craft magazine tip. It works to remove the ozone off the rubber and make a nice edge.
