understanding sprayer chart

setting up my sprayer to spray behind my planter. on the back of the box the tips are in states that at 20 psi the tip does .35
gpm. at 30 psi .45 gpm. when i move over to the speed chart is shows at 5 mph on tip does 21 gallon an acre.
when i look up the teejet website and put in my info of 30" rows 15 gpa at 5 mph i need a .38 tip. so i think i need to increase
pressure to about 24 psi to get the amount i need. i'm confused on the gpa per nozzle on the chart though.

That's exactly why I like my old John Blue sprayer. It's calibrated for any speed because it's ground driven. You can go faster or slower, and it still sprays the amount of chemical that the pump is set for......

Are you banding or broadcasting? Either way you just have to trust the charts. There is some flexibility built into most herbicides so if you over apply or under apply a little you won't hurt anything. You just have to keep track of how many gallons you have in the tank and know how many acres you are covering and adjust your pressure to get the right gallons. It helps if your tank has gallon markings to look at as you go. My sprayer has all the modern GPS spray controller features but I'm still watching how fast or slow the tank goes down as I go just in case something screws up.

The charts are based on a certain tip
spacing. I don't have one in front of me,
but I think the common Teejet charts are
based on a 20 inch spacing. The first two or
three digits on the tip is the degree of the
fan, and the last two digits are usually the
gallons per minute at 40 PSI.
