oil filter interchangeability

The filter for my JD 240 is a 93097. It says on the box that it replaces the B&S 492932. The filter for my Dad's Craftsman is a 696854. When I checked for a filter that would interchange, I got the 492932 number, but not the 93097 number. I would assume that my filter will fit, but I would like to be sure before I try to change his filter. I have about ten of mine on hand and want to use one of them if it will fit. If it did not fit, I would have to put the old one back on so that he would not run it without the filter and of course wreck the engine.
Thank you

My filter interchange book shows them all as basically the same. 3" OD X 2 5/16" height X 3/4"-16 thread and 25 mircron filtration. Laser # 49723, Briggs & Stratton # 696854, NAPA # 7035,Tecumseh # 36563.

You sure that 93907 number is correct.
My lookup shows that number as a Big A air filter.

696854 and 492932 are the same filter

The AM107423 number JD Seller listed is different than the 696854 and 492932. The outside diameter is almost 1/4 inch different.

I would be careful! just because it screws on and the gasket lines up doesn't mean it will work, some have check and relief valves and others might not. But in this case I would trust JDseller!

All the alternative filter numbers mentioned here have the same micron filtration, 8-11 PSI bypass valves, and anti-drain-back valves. Just like the OEM that Deere sells from Kawasaki,

That's not the number JDSeller posted. Last 3 numbers are mixed up.

But, JDS's method is the one I like: Find the OEMs filter number and cross from there. Then check bypass PSI and drainback valve info, just to be sure.

As previously stated. If the threads, gasket , drainback valve and pressure relief valve setting is maintained . As long as there is room for the out diameter and length, she is good to go.
I installed larger filters on the LX188, GN, pickups, van etc. Noted more oil pressure at low and mid range rpms .

The filters I ordered for the JD 240 were a different part number, than the JD number, but I thought that they were an acceptable substitute. Hope I am right.

Thank you for the information. I wish I could do a better job of researching this stuff for my self.

The number AM107423 is off the John Deere web site parts diagram for a JD 240 with a Kawasaki engine. The lawn mower shop I work at uses engine OEM filters on our mower servicing, that is why I gave the Kawasaki part number. We use OEM oil, fuel and air filters for warranty purposes.
