Help with planter plates for Cub 172

Hi Guys, I just bought a cub with a 172 planter to mess with, I feel it might be a bit handier than the JD 4010 in the garden which is like hitting a brad with a sledge hammer.

I want to use the planter for green beans, sorghum and sweet corn (golden bantam with big kernels and hybrid sweet corn small kernels) and if there is one made for it pumpkins.

Any idea on the numbers or can point me to a reference? The man I am buying it from says he has boxes of the plates and I can pick 4 or 5 when I take the tractor.

Thanks for help.

I think I found what I need through a archives search that led me to Lincoln ag. Anybody know if the 172 planter (sidemount on the cub) uses reagular IH plates?

if your planting blue lake green beans, the c8-16 or c8-24 is what you need. their the dark blue plates.

for your golden bantam sweet corn c9-24 works good.

Milo, i got 2 sets of metal plates. ill have to buff the up a little to get numbers; however, they work real good on okra.

ill try to get the numbers for the Milo plates. if you need plates for purple hull or black eye peas, well their still in the planter. ill have to open up a hopper and get the number.

hope this helps

Yup, use the same plates in case my 1926 106 planter that I use in my 172 cub planter and 184 planter

Have you looked on Ebay? There is usually quite a few plates on there. Might find a manual as well. Somewhere I've seen a chart listing the plates and their intended use.

That planter was made for feed grains so you wont find plates for garden seeds. The planters for pumpkins ect were different.

Head over to the farmall cub site and you should be able to download a manual for your 172. In there it will also give you numbers and measurements for your seed plate. I've always use the metal plates although the plastic ones are cheaper.

your right on the feed grains. I found what i need by trial-an-error. I bought a big box of of assorted plates off ebay. just kept trying different plates with different seeds.

what i haven't found yet is a plate for pinto beans. their shorter than the blue lake and fatter meaning a shorter and deeper cell.
