Hey Randy, it's home.

Jeff brought home that 1650 today. That was the first tractor Pop sold with the 3 speed in it and also the first one we sold with the 7.50x18 front tires. Still original paint. She's home to stay. Everything seems shipshape except the 3 pt hitch doesn't go up. Have to figure that out "one of these days".

So at last count, between me and the boys, Oliver 60, Oliver 88, Oliver S-88, Oliver 1650, Oliver 1850, Oliver 1955 4wd, Oliver OC-4 dozer, and one little orphan JD 420. (well, at least the thing is green)

The 88 is on the disabled list right now and the 1850 is still limping along with the slipping clutch, (next shop project now that we have the 1650 around) and everything else is earning their keep.

Getting quite a collection there, Don! Fellow I know just picked up a 77. Seems to be all there and working, and he said he got some extra tin and such with it. He asked me what the "correct" transmission / rear end fluid was and so I did some looking--seems like people are split between 80W-90 gear oil and 10W-30 with some mythical "special additive" that hasn't been made in years added. Didn't know enough to give him a definitive answer, and not sure what the previous owner used. Any thoughts?

80/90 in the transmission and rear end. Hydraulic oil in the hydraulics. They're two separate things.

What's up with the 88? We have an 88 and it runs but needs some TLC. Mostly minor such as governor rebuild, new valve seals, and fix cover over the transmission/ differential. Bought a S88 radiator years ago as I got it cheap but should have regular 88 radiator to use the cap cover. Rear tires hold air but otherwise kind of poor. Last year was very bad with the drought so nothing happening with the 88. I've got a Ford 860 and I spent 50 bucks on it earlier this year so I could get it started as it had sat. It had a recent engine rebuild and I wanted the tractor started to keep the internals lubricated. A lot of things I would like to do but fear will not get done any time soon.

This particular 88 is on it's 3rd motor. Right around 8,000 engine hours on each of the first two. The original head is done for this time. The current short block is a S-88 so the boy is in the process of procuring a S-88 head.

haven't checked yet,Randy, but will shortly.

The motor runs smooth as all Olivers do. 5200 hours on the motor. Only problem ever had with the motor was the owners father was chopping corn, the water pump started leaking and he thought he could get one more round and seized the motor at 1800 hours. Can't remember exactly what we did for repairs on it at the time, but it has never missed a beat since.
