H steering gear

I'm trying to remove the steering worm GEAR. On all H's that I've worked on in the past the gear was easy to lift off the shaft once i pulled the worm shaft out and I took the nut off. I don't have a pullers that will fit in the small space surrounding the worm gear. How do I get it to pop off the shaft. Is there a special pullers for this?

Raise the front of the tractor so the wheels are 1 inch off the ground. Remove the big nut on top. Place a brass hammer or a very hard wood block in the end of the shaft and strike it with a 2 or 4 pound hammer. The shaft will drop right out. There is no puller that will do the job. Never ever strike the shaft directly.

If the tractor is on the ground, you will need to lift it so the tires are Just touching, and the bolster (steering) shaft is under tension downwards from the sector gear. Use a propane torch or heat gun to warm the gear (not enough to set the oil/grease on fire, but warmmm.) With the shaft nut on the threads until it is flush with the top of the threads use a brass or aluminum buffer on the nut and whack it with a 2 pound hammer. Jim

I found that having the wife turn the steering wheel right=left-right-left as I did the work helped a lot.
