Farmall farmerizing

Well it's been a minute since I've been around. Been awfully busy with the cows and etc. But I had to do a little work on the old 300 today. The throttle lever would jar back to idle under a heavy load, at the most in opertune moment. So I decided to replace the washer. Here's what I found. Yes it's a quarter. It's dated 1982 best I can tell. I had to laugh when I took it off, since I've ran the old gal for a while and never noticed. Anyhow, hope you all get a kick out of it like I did, and feel free to share your farmerized finds.

It was an expensive washer for that time but if it got the tractor going again at a critical time it was cheap though I would NEVER have thought about using a quarter for a washer.

HA! I did the same thing a few years ago. Was building a bar-b-que shelter in the backyard and needed some 1/2" washers. Went to the local big box store and they wanted 28 cents apiece for them. Wouldn't do it. Drilled out some quarters. Worked good and are a conversation starter.

Went to "town" one morning early with my Dad, he was working on something and needed a copper washer for something only one hardware/auto store in town wanted 28 cents for what he needed. He told them" no way am I going to pay 28 cent for that" came home and drilled a hole in a quarter.

had a welder remove the crossover pipe on a Harley exhaust once.
He welded coins in the holes. (long time ago...think they were nickels)
You could still tell they were coins.....I got a lot of questions on that one.

Oh yes I have done the same. Nickle fit the end of a handle on a little scoop I use for cat kibble. Used a whole lot of pennys. Just remember that you need the ones from 1983 or so. They are pure copper. The newer ones are zinc with a copper wash. They turn into a puddle. There is an inn and fine dinning in Stockton,NJ. They have Silver Dollars in the flag stone floor of the bar! They have a spike silver soldered to their back so they Don't come out. Was done some time around WW II.

When I was 19 many years ago I worked summer for the county mowing road ditches. We had 404 IH tractor with hydraulic driven sickle mower and it would always stall out. The head mechanic came out and said he'd fix it. Took the relief valve apart dropped in 4 or 5 pennies and away we went.. We always said we knew what that tractor was worth, 5 cents.
