Dipstick measurements for Case IH 485 engine

I need to make my own dipstick and need help. If you have a 485 or one with same engine, could you give me the measurements
on your dipstick please:

how far down from the top of the fill tube to the top of "Full"
how far down from the top of the fill tube to the top of where it needs oil added.
How far down from the top of the fill tube to the bottom of the "add oil" area.

I have found that 3/4" PVC (sched 40) fits down into the tube, and with a PVC cap on it has served me for a year since my dipstick went missing. I plan to drill a hole in the middle and thread a rod that, with your help, will be marked and held in place in that PVC cap with a nut underneath and on top, then bend the rod in an L shape above that to aid in removing it to check the oil. If you have a better idea, feel free to share. Thanks.

I would too if: 1) the price for one didn't range from $65 to $120, and 2) One I make will not be subject to being pulled out by brush or stolen by someone else who needs one.

Thanks.

If you don't want to get a used stick. Then when you change the oil fill it to the proper level and mark your stick or measure down from the top of the fill tube with a tape measure then mark your stick. Then about a half gallon lower make the other mark. This could be done by filling to the level then add the final 2 quarts and remark.

Have a 495 in the shed, I'll try and get some photos/measurements today for you.

Never lost the stick, but it's shielded by the loader mounts. Lost the hyd stick once....left boot must of hooked it. I was not happy. Ended up having to get a new one.....

Approx 8.5" from top of tube to FULL mark
Approx 9.5" from top of tube to MIN mark
Approx 10 3/4" from top of tube to end of stick

THANK YOU!!!! You, my friend, are probably one of those guys who always show up when someone is in need, doing whatever you can. I will save this information so that if I ever need to make a second one I can do so. You don't know how much I appreciate your doing this for me. Blessings!!

Thank you for the reply. I did what you suggest here once before, but lost the info before I had a chance to make the dipstick. As you can see from the post below this, a super helpful fellow has done the measurements for me and I will be able to made a very usable dipstick. I do appreciate your comeback and helpful idea.

Caterpillar Guy: Thank you for the reply. I did what you suggest here once before, but lost the info before I had a chance to make the dipstick. Next time I change oil I can follow your suggestions and adjust the rod to be precise for my machine (if it's not already) by moving the nuts on the threads I do appreciate your comeback and helpful idea. (I wrote the thanks in the post above but neglected to quote you or mention your name, and editing was not possible on the site at the time, so decided to just do it again. Thanks.)
