I don't restore tractors, I rehabilitate them. You know the person who has led a life of excess, goes away for rehab, comes back and sort of looks OK but not like when he was young. Well anyway, I'm about finished with the NAA and have all those little last pieces to do and am having a hard time slowing down and doing things right. Anybody else? DCARP,be there May 6 at Moravia!! Yeah, it's still a Ford.

I'm the same way. The closer I get to getting a tractor done the more I think I should skip this or that will be good enough but, I always catch myself. After thinking it over, I decide that I went through all the work of getting this far doing a good job, don't skimp on it now. Then it gets done right.

The late Pat Brown called it "sprucing up" a tractor.

That pretty much describes the process around here.

Replace or repair the obvious parts that need immediate attention.

If something else fails later, then repair it correctly.

Yep, I have to force myself not to rush when I get close too.

For some reason the word "restore" turns me into the correct
police, so I don't use it for my tractors either. I refurbish them.
Like the one in this [b:a1d9e15bca]slideshow[/b:a1d9e15bca]. Note the 12V conversion, spin-on
oil filter, black starter, etc. Not restored, just refurbished.

it rose from the ashes. good job. mine is 12 v with a generator, spin on oil filter, black gen and starter, 6 loop rims painted gray. no clear coat. when I finish I'm
going to clean up and paint my 2 bottom 14 AO Fergusson (Dearborn/Ford) plow to go with it. pic is still in work clothes

that pic is after cleaning and getting it running - lots of mechanical work. then took it apart to paint. should be back together next week.

I also don't restore as I like to use mine. I usually make changes that will make them work better too. And staying patient in the end to make it all nice is one of the hardest parts and one I'm not good at.

Most of my tractors are on life support, three of them are in possibly terminal comas.

I do not restore, I patch, bandaid, and tinker. Every time I grit my teeth and try to do a "professional" job, it somehow comes back and bites me.
