The fuel line has a split right next to the inlet fitting. My plan was to pull the hose out a little bit and cut off the bad end and reattach it. Well, it won't come out.I stretched both ends out at least 6 inches but it won't come out. If I pull it more will it break in the middle and then I won't be able to see either end? Any suggestions?

Perhaps the line swelled from exposure to fuel. Cut it out and get EXACTLY the right size, fractional or metric, and then cut the end diagonally and thread it through. Little tricky but possible.

It's time for a new hose guy. If it's split in one place, chances are it's ready to split in another, that's if you haven't bunged it up stretching it. Modern fuels play poorly with older fuel lines. Get the proper sized modern Tygon type hose and replace it.

When i ran a saw shop, that was the only brand of saw I mostly avoided working on because of things being so hard to get to on them like the fuel line. McCulloch,Homelite and Poulan saws you could change the fuel line on them five to six times in the time it took to do a Sears saw.
Those saws were almost impossible to crank with out the compression being opened. They would almost break a finger pulling them with out the compression release.

I believe they were made by Roper. Not fun to work on, I agree. Funny thing is, back when we were working on them getting parts meant writing letters, waiting for a reply, maybe writing more letters, and so on. All for $1.50 in parts. Now you can find schematics on line, hunt parts in minutes, locate whole parts machines 2000 miles away and have them there the next day if needs be. And if you can't find the parts right off, you can set up a search on Ebay to notify you ASAP when it does show up! Not bad, not bad at all!

You probably have a plastic adapter on the hose inside the tank where the filter attaches to another line that routes to whereever. Just cut the hose off and pull it out. Hoses are readily available at WW, HD, Lowes, mower shops, Sears......... Not hard to route the new hose. Just cut the end to a long angle so you have some hose to start through the hole and grasp with a pair of long nosed pliers....the rest will squeeze through the hole.
