ford men I need help

all the ford guys; I have a 2.3 liter in a ford escape. It had just been serviced about 1000 miles ago and now the oil is so low it does not show on the dip stick. The timing chain has slipped and bent the valves. I have seen another 2.3 engine loose the oil quickly also. Did these engines have some PCV problem that caused the oil to be sucked into the intake and be burned with the gas and if so what is the solution. The rings are good and I have zero leaks. I am satisfied it is being burned but dont know how.
thanks for any help

The two issues may not be related. With many miles, the chain can fail, they are usually not affected by lack of oil. A rod or main will spin and fail way before the chain. Why it is eating oil is yet to be determined. Did you change it? do you remember checking the Dip stick when filled? Is the plug tight? Jim

I would look at the PCV system, particularly the PCV valve and the rubber vacuum hose it attaches to. You would probably notice oil in the the intake or signs of oil going through the intake and ports.

As far as chain failure problem, the chain tensioner is hydraulic so its possible that low oil pressure caused too much slack. I have also seen a few overhead cam engines lock up the cams or try to lock the cams up due to lack of oil, maybe that could cause jumped chain?

Thanks 4play I think you are dead on. As i said the engine is basically good rings good no leaks so the oil is being lost for another reason. After investigating I did find oil in the pcv hose going to the
intake so I think you are right on. I also found a lot of people on the net with the same problem. The pcv valve is almost impossible to get to so I bet it is the factory one. Thanks for your help. This is the
2nd engine I have seen do this. Just something to remember
