Trailer Plug wiring

Probably other places to ask this question but this is an every day site for me and lots of knowledge here.I just purchased a 2005 F-350 with dump bed. It has the round pin connector and no brake controller. I have ordered a connector for my Tekonsha controller so that should be straight forward. (although there are 2 connectors in the back of the bracket where the ford controller goes) I was switching to a flat blade plug but could not get any voltage to any of the wires while doing the different functions. I know those functions are through a different circuit. Is there a way to turn on the circuit.....Fuse....relay...???? I did not have the owners manual at the time but found it and it appears there is some sort of controller or ECM to run this?? Anyone run into this before? Thanks for replies,
Andy

There are two fuse blocks on that truck. One of them has fuses for the different wires in the trailer plug. Look on line for a diagram on which ones are which.

Here is a pic I found of the under hood fuse block for an 06. see if it looks correct for you.

I'm sure youre already aware those round 7 pole RV Trailer Plugs that are becoming standard on so many pickups have a wiring terminal where the BLUE/BRAKE wire attaches for say a trailers electric brakes (or other uses). They also have a hot 12 volt terminal for auxiliary loads or charging trailer batteries etc. If you look at the web site etrailer

they have all sorts of plug n play wiring plugs cords and adapters

Not a Ford but, my 08 Silverado came wired from the factory for a trailer (round 7 pin) but nothing worked. I took it back to the dealer and found out there was a power lead that had to be connected by the fuse box under the hood for everything thing to work. Maybe Ford did something similar and it was never connected.

I found a video on Youtube to explain how to specifically hook up a brake controller on my Year-make-model pickup.
The video was very specific to the model.

You can buy a round 7 wire to flat 4 wire plug adapter at Advance auto, or probably many other stores. I use it for may little trailers.
