License plate question

If I understand your question correctly: NO. You can license whatever you want. Just don't haul over your licensed weight (or don't get caught) .

Ohio you do not designate a weight for a plate. That is the trailer manufactured carry weight that you get. The only weight you use is the empty weight of truck or trailer for them to come up with the cost of the plate. Say if the trailer is made for 7,000# you cannot licence it for 5000# or 8000#.

There are a number of states that do not have any weight rating on the license plate. Weight rating on tow vehicle. Plate cost is not affected by trailer size . Trailer plate cost in Kentucky is the same on a single axle utility as a semi.
