Gator gas engine

Long story short, I have a 2 cylinder Kawasaki engine in a gator that has been sitting for a long time. It was running when parked... frame broke and there were other issues so it sat for 4 years.

We cleaned up the carb, have 140-150 lbs compression in both cylinders, new plugs and spark on both, fuel into the carb and through into the cylinders. The valves are all free and moving correctly.
So here is the problem... it will only run on one cylinder at any one time. It is defiantly missing and when you pull the one plug cap off the other side keeps it going... then you can switch and it will run on the first cylinder. They just won't both run at the same time???
This has us puzzled, any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, Grant.

I know with a Briggs twin cylinder with that problem it turned out to be the carb. Bought a new carb and it now purrrrs. As stated, a Briggs engine. Now with a Kawasaki there could be others. The carb I changed out was a Niki unit.

From some research I believe it might have a wasted spark ignition. The coil may be internally grounded and thus not able to fire both.

Thanks we did this. The weird thing is it will alternate firing if you pull the one plug. The engine keeps running. Put the plug cap back on and pull the first and it switches again????

ry swapping the two plugs and see if problem moves.

It looks like this may be some ignition modular / brain issue??? There are two coils also.., they could be shorting internally I guess???

Yup, I left a message with the deere service guys for advice...I'm sure they will say bring it in.

I may end up needing to change the coils and the ignition module...
I will let you know what it ends up being.
