purple fields --- yellow fields

In Texas wild mustard/b****** cabbage shows up about the same time as bluebonnets and other wild flowers. This year the blue bonnets were early and I haven't seen much of the yellow stuff around Manchaca and west. DCARP, M-MTEXAS, J DR315 and others, has it shown up in your areas? The web site wouldn't let me use the full common name of this noxious weed. Good filter.

We have golden rod aka wild mustard here in Indiana. That stuff can get 3 foot tall and the white seeds will plug the screens on your tractor.

Not here, nothing much growing here, in fact it is snowing here this morning. That said we're about a month and a half out from yellow rocket. A very prolific weed, will take over a field in a matter of a couple seasons if not controlled. We've made a concerted effort to keep it down here for two generations. My parents, and I would go out and pull whatever plants we could find every spring. Other farms around have whole fields coming up every year. They have to control by cultivation or chemicals.

Lots of Wild Mustard here in Southern Nevada, but we also have an infestation of "Skunk Weed" - pretty little plant with about a 4 inch stem (when fully grown) with a pretty, light Blue flower, but it smells just exactly like a Skunk. - Anyone else have "Skunk Weed" ? ? ?

The Bluebonnets came out early and kind of sparse. Just not a good year for them.

We have something here in MI we call "Skunk Cabbage", grows in wet soil, swamps. Not sure if it's the same thing? Stinks like skunk though

Hey thanks! Those are one of the nicest flowers in masses. What are the red ones? I was in Texas once on my way to San Diego. Changed planes at the airport. I had to go outside and walk down a narrow busy median to find a tiny strip of earth. People looked at me like I was nuts (I was!), but at least I got to say I stood on Texas soil. Kids got a kick out of it.
