Molasses and the fuel tank

I have a lightly rusty fuel tank that I want to try the molasses treatment on. It's a very thin tank and no longer made so it seems better than my
usual route of strapping one to the tractor tire. It's about a 12 gallon tank. How much animal grade powder molasses to how much water? This
is the first time I have tried it. Recommendations?

I have used molasses with great success. I mix 9 water to one molasses. I used it on a motorcycle tank. Let it sit for 4 or 5 days. rinse wit water. It will flash rust real quick maybe spray some WD 40 after it's dry. I buy 5 gal at our feed store. It is around 22.00 here. I think it is a little over priced, but what can I do. Stan

The feed store down the road sells it too. From what I have read the old black strap stuff has sulfer in it. Would guess it almost acts as an acid cleaner. MHO now I have had Very go results removing crud with straight E 85. Really does a job but just be careful around rubber and paint. Makes a pretty good paint stripper .

The article I read on the subject said mix it 7:1, but I don't think it makes too much difference- probably just slower if its more dilute. This is a good winter project, because the molasses will ferment quickly in the heat of summer, and becomes pretty gross to work with.
