Need JD Seed Drill Help.

Got my hands on a new drill today, it was from a friend. It needs major repair, and they don't want to mess with it, no plans on using one anymore.

The short story is that a brush pile was lit, and a week or two later re-ignited and traveled, and burned a bunch of stuff on the drill on the right rear corner. He replaced the tire, but other than that, it needs help, bad.

I towed it to the JD dealer locally today, and they are going to look it over for me. My biggest question, is if there is a source for some used parts somewhere? We are unclear of the model at this point, but after a little hunting around, I am going to guess it is an 8300. It is 10 foot seeding width, 12 overall. Has a combined fertilizer / seed box, and small grass boxes on the front.

What I am looking for used are those rubber / plastic rollers that pack the ground after the seed as been put in? About 11 or 12 of them are completely melted and gone! I don't HAVE to replace them, but I am sure they are going to be very expensive new..... :/

I have to believe its well worth repairing. We had an 8350, planted hundreds of acres of oats with it, sure seemed like a good drill. Nice you have the small seed set up too. I'd have to believe for the amount of planting you do, one of these would last ya a long time.
I don't know much about the parts, we got what this one needed from the JD dealer.

Press wheels. You can successfully use a heavy packer after the drill for a lot less money. Good luck with it. Ben.

I do have a very nice 2 piece packer that I usually pull, I am planning on using it this year. For now I want to at least get the drill working, I can live without press wheels! ;)

Hello Bryce hope your trip home was uneventful Saturday. I think that there was someone listing 455 packer wheels on pullman Craigslist a while back. Pretty sure they are the same but not positive, dealer should know

You can make a rubber tired packer like this- 20 inch gas pipe, and free tires. Pipe is closed, so I can fill it with water to adjust weight. I use it behind my 13 foot 8300.
