Neighbor brought his old Chevy truck over to get washed so he can get ready to sell it. I took some video and pictures and thought some might like to see the old brute still chugging along after all these
years. I believe its a 1951 or so.

The old Chevy is pretty well preserved compared to some I have seen. Like the rusting hulk in my uncle's yard. My brother has a pretty nice 47 GMC water truck that was upgraded to a 261 Pontiac six cylinder engine.
The one in your video appears to have been updated with some newer style wheels. I guess nobody wanted to work on the old split rims anymore.

connor9988 what s he going to ask for the old girl. we have a 49 model 3800 here on the farm. the old girl purrs like a kitten. Love to drive it. RB

That is a sweet old truck. Some day I'll find a ford of that vintage to complete my collection.

Used to drive one like that when I moved the Cletrac about 5 miles from farm to farm. Tractor slid against the side rack when a wheel sunk in the marshland. Had to borrow the neighbors OC-3 to pull the big tractor back to center after we leveled the truck.

Truck was used to haul chopped corn from the marshland to the home farm for silo filling. Was interesting to move the truck to within inches of the tractor track after getting the windshield splashed with corn juice.

Those old GM trucks are hard to kill. I've got four 1 1/2 ton trucks around here - a 35, a 54, a late 55, and a 58. They each get used on any given day to haul water to pastures, haul dirt, haul firewood, or just small loads of grain or feed. Every single one of them marks it's spot, so they all have a strip of cardboard under them. It doesn't mater whether it's the 207, the 235, or the 270, they are all great engines.

The view inside the cab brings back some memories. (Though it could use a refresher layer of duck tape!)

My Dad had a '55 1/2 ton.

First vehicle I ever drove. Just backed it up in the driveway, it was blocking Mom's car, she wouldn't try to move it because it was a standard. Trying to figure how old I was, had to be about 7 or 8.

Wish he had kept it, to him it was just an old truck. I wanted it but he sold it to some kid that promptly wrecked it.

Nice old truck. I have a '49 & a '50, both 6400s that I would sell.
The '49 has a hydraulic military dump box & the '50 has a hydraulic "Tommy Lift" on the back end.
Both are pretty complete.

This old GMC used to be a tow truck with a big pto powered Braden winch in the back. Its in "retirement row" right now.

Is that an Iowa license? I see your posts on the Case forum. Are you a member of any Case groups? I belong to three. Are you going to the Albert City Case gathering in August? I hope to make it to that show.

Ron, I am a member of the Mid-Iowa Case Collectors (fairly new group). We just had a meeting/show this past week in Pella, IA.

I hope to have a tractor and plow up at Albert City. Leaning on taking my 1951 VAC and Case MRB plow but we shall see.

Those are the standard 18" Kelsey -Hayes wheels that GM offered clear up into the '70's ....

I have never seen a GM truck of that vintage with that style wheel , and I have seen a lot of those trucks. Maybe this being a one ton is the difference. Most of the trucks I saw were 2 ton or bigger. Had maybe 5 cutouts in the (20 inch) wheels. There were a lot of 3/4 ton trucks in that style here but they had a solid disk wheel, usually a 17 inch. This one in the video is different type wheels than any I have ever seen.

Saw one in Colorado last week when I was there. Too bad it was too far away. The blue one.
The big green one is mine.

Yep, my neighbor has a '69 with those same wheels. Nice old truck. They would have to be shoveling dirt in my face before I'd give up the old girl!!!

After a little research I see there are other one tons of that vintage with those style wheels. I guess we hardly ever saw a one ton truck here in those years. Farmers either bought the bigger 2 ton or else made do with the smaller 3/4 ton.
Here is a pic of a 52 GMC one ton I found on the net.
