First planted field

I saw the first field being planted today. St Johns, Mi Local mint farmer had the field worked up and was planting mint like crazy. He must have the field well tiled and lighter soil. Some of my land has water standing and quite wet on the rest of it. Where I do have tile I'd call it too wet to work but can be drove on carefully.

I cleaned feedlots day before yesterday. The manure spreader tires were sliding on the frost in a few places. I cut some ruts a few inches deep here and there too.

Second load of fat cattle went on their field trip yesterday, have only four head left to market. Manure spreading should be underway, the grape ground looks firm enough to hold the load.

2 ft of snow still here, 0 f nights still. I think we are at the same latitude as the U.P. At least a month to go before the ground softens up.

Saw a fellow out drilling something in a field just east of Nashville, MI on March 11th.
Donno what he was drilling but soil looked ready for working.
Son lives across the road, so told him to keep an eye on it and see what if anything comes up.
That said, I'm itching to get out with the cultivator and then drill my oats. Ground is still froze here,
only thaws top layers so far. Would like to spread manure, but mine is frozen pretty solid.
Don't want to wreck loader and spreader with frozen chunks.
Will be quite a while before that stuff thaws down to the ground.

My brother has been on me to check out if we could be chisel plowing yet. I just let it go in one ear and out the other.Though we have not had that much water this winter in MI. This is in Shiawassee county.
