Looked at the how today I posted about a few days ago.

It does not like 3rd & 4th gears on a hill, pulls fine on flat ground, slows way down on a grade

Transaxle fluid was low (owner said all fluids good level, I checked it after driving it) and smells burnt....

Would low fluid (it was real low) cause it to skip, and what does it cost to rebuild the shuttle in those?

It's a later one with shifter on the console

Shows 64xx hrs

I would do it for around $2500.00 with a new pump and reman torque converter.Don't know what others would charge. Labor rates vary widely and mark-up on parts varies greatly, but that't a ballpark figure.

My employers 580E is on the second one. He let his nephew run it and they need to be treated gently. 4th gear kills them in my opinion I had a wore out Oliver 1650 loader with the same basic unit and was able to use it in low gear. We have a 580 Super M now and much heavier drive train.

Do you mean the torque converter fluid. I think you need to check it running in N. After putting it in F and R. I have let mine get low and start skipping. Bad. But I finally got enough oil in it and it is ok. Will be overfull sitting cold. Way overfull. Mine is a 480E. Turning the pump up makes them a tractor.
