New variation on phone scamming.

Got another call from Lisa with her "There is no problem with your credit card..." CLICK!

The variation is that her call showed a local area code. Usually, I can disregard those calls, as they come from an unknown (to me) area codes. This time, her first SIX digits matched mine. In other words, both area code and exchange matched mine! Because of circumstances I won't go into here, there are few numbers in my exchange. So they probably cloned the first six numbers off my number to make call look like a local call. They're getting more clever!

It's been going on for quite a while with my area code and prefix. DIRTY &^%#@#^&'s!

Yeah, that happened to me. Got a call from "Rachel" regarding my credit card and my caller ID showed the call was from the local Little Ceasers Pizza shop in town. Odd how that happens.

I get calls with my own name and number showing up on the ID. I don't answer. I talk to myself enough without the phone. TDF

Got a couple of those yesterday. My usual policy is if I don't recognize the number I don't answer. No voicemail left means scam or spam.

I'm gonna call you and start right in with something about your credit card just to see if I get an ear full. LOL

I too have been getting calls to my cell with local numbers and first three matching mine. First time I quickly looked saw first three , thought wifey is calling, no! junk mail spammer scammer robo call. Disconnected. I'm more diligent now looking at the numbers. Just don't answer, they never leave a message!!?? gobble

Ever since my folks passed, our phone rarely ever rings. Isn't unusual nowdays for it to not ring one time all month.

It "did" ring.....yesterday morning I think? but before Caller ID could kick in the call was cancelled. We assumed it was a wrong number.

It has gotten to the point where I let all calls go to voicemail unless I see a name I recognize. Our freedoms are slowly being stolen right out from under us....problem is, government stepping in to monitor will also steal our freedoms away....

all of em gotta be from the same place, last one I got I told him I was going to hunt him down and slit his throat if he calls me again, havent got a call in months......

(quoted from post at 17:14:50 03/18/17) Probably a telemarketer trolling for live numbers. You just didn't answer soon enough. Call cancelled.

Is possible, but was only 1/2 a ring. However, maybe it takes longer to make connection for us than other numbers?

I got caught at a weak moment by a call on the cell phone trolling for live numbers the other day. The number on caller ID was in my area so I answered only to have the other end hang up.

Rachel does that to me too. My area code and my first 3 numbers. I wish she wasn't stalking me and her sister too.

I never answer any phone number I don't recognize. If someone ligit wants to contact me they can leave a message.

I had a call yesterday from a woman with Home Energy Systems. She asked an opening question: "Do you know how old your house is?" So I answered her: "Yes, I do" - and hung up. At least she can't say that I didn't answer her question.

Once I got caller ID I disconnected my answering machine. I also signed up on the Do Not Call list. Every time I get a scam call, I report it, and it actually seems to help. I'm down to only about 4 or 5 per month now.

I have phone service with TWC (cable) and they programmed my phone so that for ROBO calls it rings only once then hangs up. Not sure how they do it but my frustration level is now lower.

Hmm...maybe Verizon has done something similar. We've had the phone ring a couple of times over the winter, but like 1/2-a-ring each; not even long enough for caller ID to kick in.

We just assumed they were mis-dialed numbers.

That is called "spoofing" the number.
I am firmly convinced that the phone companies have the technology to stop spoofing, but for some reason refuse to use it.
I have called and complained to them about it, but it continues...

One even showed up as my own number on the caller ID.
