Off to a bad start mowing

I am doing a little mowing even though the weeds are still green. I tell the people I will be back in a month or so. Yesterday I had a bearing go our on the cross shaft on my flail mower. I always keep a couple spare bearings. I was just down the time to change the bearing. Lost a couple hours. Today I got a piece of chain link wire wound up in my mower reel. I loaded up and removed it at the shop. went back to finish. On the very last round I was actually finished. I decided to do some mowing around some fallen branches. The mower just stopped turning the slip clutch took over. I got at least 20 ft of chain link wound around my mower real again. It was so tight It would been a lot of cutting with the torch. The end of the wire stopped right where I could get a chain hooked to it. After a couple failed attempts, the fence started to unwind after pulling it out. Another 2 hours shot. Hope tomorrow is better. How did your day go? By the way I joined the Navy today in 1964, Stan

Wow! Now that you got your bad day over with at the beginning of the season the rest of the year will be a breeze. Or we can rationalize it that way at least. My day was uneventful, the way I like it.

Woke up with a sore throat and it hasn't gotten any better. Plugged the heater in on my big tractor and it started after a couple of hours, first time since November. Put the 3 btm rollover plow on and drove a couple miles over to the Hmongs and plowed up two fields for them. Hit a lot of rocks, but didn't break any lays at least. Came home and got the mail with a rubber check in it from a skidsteer job last week....oh well, I do a lot of work for her, so I'm sure she will make good on it. Now it got cold again and is raining....

I agree. I had my usual 'go to town, meet the local Mensa group' (bar yabbo's) ran into some guys I haven't seen for a long time, didn't have a shopping list from the bride - good day !

WOW, you are mowing while people in the east are blowing snow. As for me I set up the greenhouse, the boss has transplanted tomato plants in larger pots, then moved the starts to the greenhouse.

Neighbor should put his tiller on massey and till his and my garden.

I'm ready for spring, done with the winter.

You should look into a sensor from a Metal Alert system, or maybe 2 or 3 to mount under your tractor. I bet that there are guys on here who have them and disabled them. You wouldn't need it to stop your mower, just scream at you.

Boy Stan sounds like you've had your share of bad luck so far this spring. But I always say and have experienced a bad start is a sign of a good finish and it works the other way too. A good start leads to a bad finish. I got my zeroturn mower ready to go back in January. Mowed some infront of the house last night for the first time this spring. I put 580 lbs of Eurea on my lawn and trees this back in late February. I may regret that next month especially if my mower goes down. We'll see. Hope you have better luck next time.
