Digging Out II

I went back out after lunch to shovel the porch off to the sidewalk and went down to the corner to see if USPS was delivering, but they weren't yet. As I said the cousin came down from the farm and plowed out the corner mail boxes and dad's driveway.
The owner of the used car dealership in our old Case dealership buildings showed up about 2:00 to try and plow out. He left his plow truck by the road and it was plowed in by town plow. He went out back to fire up his Case 580CK and blew up it's battery with a JUMP-START. Put in new bat and finally started it with ether. It was running like sh1t and think he did it in with the ether, as it was skipping and blowing tons of smoke. I told him to pull the air cleaner and make sure it hadn't blown full of snow. He shut it off, and checked it and it was OK, he said!! Went to start it back up. No crank. He went to looking and strap between solenoid and starter burned off. He went and got jumper cables and hooked one leg from solenoid to starter, lots of sparks, but no go, so there that sets in the snow bank with his plow truck.
These guys might be wizzes at repairing cars, but have no common sense about plowing snow, or operating a backhoe.
The snow has started coming down again. Lake Effects from the west now, and weather watchers are saying another 6" here tonight.
Mother nature always seams to balance thing out every year.

Before moving north out of Texas, I had subscribed to a newspaper out of Duluth. There was an article in one issue about lake effect snow down in Hurley, WI that said it wasn't unusual to get snow totals over 20' for the year. No sir, I don't envy you guys one bit!!

He need some common sense before he gets on any piece of equipment. I have been sitting here watching him out of my window trying to plow snow with his 1500 series Cheby plow truck. Should I just laugh at his antics, or put him out of his misery????
In the first pic you can see where he rammed too far into the snow and couldn't back out and second pic shows his mechanic in his BLUE Ford pulling him out for about a dozen times.

I plowed out enough to get out of the driveway to go pick up TMR this morning. Jeff and I finished plowing everything out about 11:30. Been snowing all afternoon but it hasn't amounted to anything here, Loren. Sure got a bunch of snow banks again, though. Lol!

Don,The snow ought to make gathering sap next week pretty difficult, if it does get above freezing during the days and the sap runs again. 10 day forecast doesn't look too promising.

Okay you win the 6"-8" we got here in Iowa Monday wasn't so bad after all, but the 0 degree temperatures this time of year are disheartening. When I was a young Air Force Officer I used to have to go to Calumet Air Station to inventory their ammunition, up in that part of the world they averaged 220-240 inches of snow a year, always made sure I had that visit scheduled between May 1st and October 1st as I wasn't to sure how one of those Air Force K cars would do in the snow. By the way I would drive almost 200 miles to count 50 rounds of .38 ammunition and brief their commander that they couldn't co-mingle their ammunition (not a problem they only had one lot), they had to forecast their ammunition needs (again a non factor as they didn't actually use any) and report any usage monthly (again they didn't use any and the radar was off line so I wouldn't know why anyone would attack the station). Well if I went in the fall I'd take my camera and usually got some good pictures along the way.

I don't think we got near as much snow as you but ours was drifted pretty serious. I hogged her out with Minnie. My 65 MF named after the neighbor lady I bought her from. That didn't stop my pinhead little sister from beaching her car on the culvert. There's 20 years and a mile or two of how things work between us. I try not to get sour but its not easy. She's 21 and don't know spit.
