Didggng Out

Went out about 9:30 to survey the snow situation. Couldn't get out to the front of house or driveway. We have an enclosed porch linking my shop to the house and then a door out to the wood/tractor shed where I keep the Kubota B2150. Snow depth in yard ranged from just under 3' to 4.5' out by the road. Took a while just to push a path out to the road, Once I was in the road, all I could do to clear the driveway was to drive forward into the snow as far as I could, and force the bucked down and back drag the snow out into the road, and then turn around and push it into the field across the road. Took quit a while to clear the drive. The sidewalk in front of the house had a good 4' of snow in it where it drifted off the roof.
One of the cousins was also plowing out with the 5250. Pic. when he was plowing out the uncle. Then he came down and plowed out dad's driveway so my step mom could get out and then he plowed out the mailboxes at the corner of our road and US20 We sure have some big snow banks now. The wind is coming up this afternoon and the snow is going to blow the other way.
The state DOT was out with a grader winging back the snow on the sides of US20.

Better THE THEM ME . We end up with about 2-3 inches out of this one and as far as i am concerned mother nature put it here and she can remove it at her own pace..

Only 1 1/2 - 2 ft in my driveway.
Only took a few minutes to get my 43 2N started after an hour with a space heater under a tarp running.
Took about 3 hrs to clear 1/2 of my normal plowed area. Had to plow 1/2 of depth a bunch of feet then go back and grab the rest and pile it up over the top of 1st push.
Didn't even move trucks to clear complete driveway.
1st shift was closed but found out 1/2 hr before supposed to be there my shift was open when on a normal day it takes almost 45 minutes to get there. Glad I talked to H.R. yesterday about chance not making it today.

My Dad ran a grader for the NYSDOT for around 20 years. More than 1 X-mas we waited for him to get home before opening presents.

I have chains for all 4 wheels. Just didn't want to mess with them. Yes it would spin out, but never had any issues where I couldn't back out.

Wow! That"s a snootful! That"s where it"s nice to have a blower...tough to pile when there"s nowhere to go with it.

It was a bit nippy when I raised the buck way up to dump the snow and the wind was blowing in my face, but at least I didn't have the front mtd. snow blower on it or I would have looked like a snowman. I thought the snow blower would be great, but in my situation, the loader is much faster. A 3pt blower would have been better, but. As you can see I have a 3pt. skidding arch with blade that I built, and that is helpful.

Same thing down here Loren

plowed twice yesterday and the wind filled most back in

Beefers would leave the weather shed because of a 5 foot drift in front of it...took the tractor and back blade an broke a path

Just got back inside now and everything is done

Time for a coffee

The bad news....two barns collapsed locally last night

The one had 100 head inside when it caved in

I have a front mtd. Befco/Kubota blower for it, but in my situation with the L shaped shop and wood shed doors, I was constantly blowing snow into the wind and road, which wasn't a good thing if someone went by, and the snow was blowing back on me all the time. The FEL is much handier and faster in my situation.

I head that on the news last night but they dident
say much about it. They did say about the 100
head of cattle, but that was about it, nothing on the
news today either?

That looks like a lot of work Loren. Didn't get that much down where I was, but over a foot I think. Leaving this morning was a slow process since the truck stop was over full and everyone was leaving at the same time.

Haven't heard any details other than it collapsed

The Stanton farm had the 100 head in it....just one of his barns.
Big dairy farm

The other collapse was in Groveners corners... not sure who

At noon the news said NY still had a no truck traffic still in place! Lots of truck stops were full of tractor trailers here too.

The wind turned off the Lake for us early this morning, we got a solid eight inches (don't I wish) of lake effect. The FedEx driver just had trouble turning around in it, but I think I'll let this lay, they are calling for 50s for most of the weekend.

Terrible to hear about the cow barn collapse, with all the other hurdles to farm profitability...

Larry,
Something not right, Loren get all the snow and I don't get any that sticks around for an hour or so. Some people get all the tractor therapy while others get none.

Sure looks purty -- from a distance. It does look like a lighter, fluffier snow which is not typical here for March. We got the same type of snow, but only about 8 inches. The wind made me wish it was a heavier, wetter snow at times.

Glad it's turning out OK,

George, be glad you didn't get it. Your Farmall with homemade snow pusher would have never mad it out of the shed. before it was stuck. HeHe.
Loren

Loren,
You are right about that, Farmall is only good for 6-8 inches. But my termite would get her done. She bunks in the same barn with the Farmall. Farmall hasn't seen any use this winter.

Used to have a JD 4010 gas with rear back-up blower. Winds blow so hard through here that the blower often rode up over the snow. ...And no cab!

Now I've got a Dodge 1/2-ton 4x4 with plow. Love it!! Only, am afraid to put ext. wings on a 1/2-ton. Not sure it could handle the stresses. Driveway is 1/2-mile long and 1/2 of that is super narrow with deep ditches on each side.

Steve, I have a MacKee blower like yours. Some SOB went up to my camp where it stored it for the summer and with use of a torch nicely heated up the rotor and popped it off the tapered shaft from the gearbox, unbolted the gear box and removed it from the blower. He even left the rotor and pto shaft there. Really nice guy!!!
When I discovered the theft, I knew exactly who stole it, because he had asked me about selling the gear box. but at the time he was hospitalized and later died. "That will teach him".
I wish it was useable today though.
Loren

I can't believe some people, taken your gear box. I tried the atv after just plowing a few hours earlier, no go, so I brought over the skidsteer, no problem. Then I got my tractor out. 26" here the news said., probably be out moving drifts tomorrow. The wind really started howling here, wasent bad all day. Stay warm.

Us New Yorkers are nice folks, we will send you how ever much snow you want, free! Just pay shipping and handling! But wait, that's not all, we" ll double the offer for separate processing!

Larry,
Changing name of terramite to turd-mite. I use it all the time to add horse poo (turds) to compost pile than moving snow.

Hard to believe, I made an 8 ft front blade for the turd-mite. Without chains or anything it pushed the little snow I get. NO WAY could it handle 24 inches. I would say, my turd has more traction than Loren bota. I have bar tires and most of the weight is concentrated on the rear wheels because of the back boom. The tractor with the 8 inch wide tires seems to have better traction than the other one with 15.5 inch tires.

I don't use the hoes anymore for snow. Have a Jubilee with a 7 ft blade. Only problem, the Jubilee needs chains, pain to put on.

Back in the 60, the city of Terre Haute had no snow removal equipment. The mayor at the time said, "God put the snow here, God can take it away."
