5 gal of alcohol

I check Craigs list sometimes in my area to see what I don't need. I see someone had 5 gal of alcohol for 5.00. I could not think of a use for it. Maybe cleaning brake cylinders. I passed on that. what would the alcohol have been good for? Stan

We used to run some kind of purple alcohol on radiators in the winter,back before permanent antifreeze was a big thing.

Depends on the type of alcohol.

If it was methanol it would be used to mix race fuel.

You sure it wasn't someone trying to sell some moonshine?

Its good for cleaning up tanks, carbs, etc. that have old gas. Also adhesive residues of some types.

Some alcohols are used as a gas line antifreeze.

I saw on TV where they added a little rubbing alcohol to water added a little dish soap and used it as ice melt on sidewalk.
I use denatured alcohol to clean up wet silicone when I caulk something. It works like water does when you are cleaning up latex caulk.

You can use it to wipe down surfaces you want to paint. Most of the 'paint prep' products are alcohol.

I go through a couple of gallons a year cleaning syringes after working cattle. If it's drinking alcohol, I go through a couple of gallons a year after working cattle. :lol:

2X wiping down for paint prep. I use it also after rinsing rust converter from surfaces with water, to prevent flash rust.

Just looking at a list......it shows 18 different alcohols of differing chemical content, so no telling what he is selling & probably doesn't know!
