Severe oil usage/ smoke on a JD B

My brother bought a later model B a couple of weeks ago. It ran great the little we have run it. I mounted a small seed spreader on it and was spreading some red clover seed and all of a sudden smoke starter rolling out of the muffler and exhaust manifold. The engine made no unusual noises and actually ran fine. Then it stopped. After a few minutes it did it again...stopped and then did it again...then engine oil all over the muffler.

What are the possibilities? Our older model B has a vent stack to ventilate the crankcase but I don't see anything like that on this model.

Just drop the Air Cleaner oil Cup and see if it still smokes,,,if not..it is Mud-Dauber nests in the Inlet pipe,, just flush them out with a garden hose,,,!!!

That sounds like the spring(s) have broken in the crankcase vent pump located inside the fan shaft. Soon it will
probably begin blowing oil out the stack. If it were the air cleaner oil, it probably would have done it all along.

the secound styled 1948 and newer letter series had a low oil pressure set up in the sediment bowl that when the oil
pressure got low it would shut off the fuel. the gas sometimes deteriorates the sealing parts and lets fuel into the
crankcase. loosen the drain plug and see what comes out . if a lot of gas comes out you will have to put in new seals.
the crankcase vent on the newer models is the pipe from the air cleaner to the engine that runs along the fan shaft.

Probably the first time it had been worked and up to operating temperature in 25 years. She was just cleaning the soot out.

Don that type of fuel bowl did not come out until the 50s&60S tractors. It was offer as Kit to put on older tractors, but not many ever put on

I know its not air cleaner oil. But you wouldn't believe the 1 inch of solid gunk in the air cleaner bowl. It couldn't have been cleaned for YEARS.
Thanks for all responses...keep thinking. I will not get to the tractor until later this week.
