A Real Yesterday's Tractor

My Uncle Sandy took this photo in the summer of 45 when he was working summerfallow for a neighbour. The tractor was a Co-op. Not sure of the model but it had a Chrysler flathead six engine.
They were built in Shelbyville, Indiana I believe.

(quoted from post at 18:10:33 03/09/17) Love it!
More to the story. Some 30 years later I bought that quarter and farmed it. I know why he picked that spot for the photo. It is on a severe side hill on a tributary of Jumping Deer Creek. Right behind the tractor the land drops down steeply towards the trees. It was hay land when I farmed it and there was a little strip there I did not even dare to cut for fear of tipping over.

(quoted from post at 18:34:42 03/09/17) Perhaps the tractor was a Rockol?
I think the Co-op might have been similar to the Rockol but Co-op was their own company. You can read a little more on he National Farm Machinery Co-op and their tractors here.

(quoted from post at 19:27:56 03/09/17) Some of the Coop tractors were made by Duplex machine.
True, the first Co-op tractors rolled off the assembly line of Duplex in 1936 but the manufacturing arrangement was cancelled in 1938. A total of 11 different state Co-ops got together and formed the National Farm Machinery Co-op. Manufacturing then took place in Shelbyville, Indiana. Its an interesting bit of history and I've got the book "Cockshutt The Complete Story" with all the details.

We have a gentleman that pulls with us and has a COOP and is a sweet running old tractor. I love tone that engine has when pulling.

Used to be able to hear that sound all over the country side at harvest time years ago when most combines were powered by the Chrysler flathead six. My dad's Massey Harris model 60 combine had one and can remember riding along hearing the sounds.

I think there might have been several versions of "Co-op" branded tractors that were not connected to one another with a parent company or
anything like that.
