Farm equipment companies on television

I was staying inside yesterday due to the weather and saw an episode of Little House on the Prairie. The shopkeeper Oleson was going up the staircase and I saw (very brief) a poster for "Dear and Co." which I thought was a twist on Deere and Co because the show did not want to openly endorse Deere w/o compensation. I remember early in the series that Charles talks about the McCormick grain binder. I remember years ago on Robert Conrad's old Black Sheep Squadron show about the unit obtaining an "American Harvester" dozer to use on the island. Obviously they changed International to American so as not to give IH a plug back in 1978.

I remember seeing one episode of Little House where he bought a brand new plow. It looked Oliver to me. They were kind of unique with the ridges on the back of the moldboard.

Could be an Oliver. I remember that Ingalls bought a plow and seed in the pilot for the show. I sure know a lot about a show I was never a huge fan of. As a side note the Ingalls family briefly lived in Western New York and I believe the real Charles was born there. There is an Ingalls road somewheres in western Allegany County and Eastern Cattauragus County which probably denotes the family's presence in WNY.

Town of Lyndon near Franklinville in Cattaraugus County. Sorry about the mispell of Cattaraugus in the previous post. They supposedly considered themselves as part of the community of Cuba in Allegany County. Anything is possible as a lot of changes were made with respect to town and county boundaries in New York during the first half of the 19th Century.

Charles could have been from NY.

Mrs. Ingalls was from Brookfield, WI. After she met Charles, they moved to Concord WI, which is about 15 miles from me. Then to Pepin COunty, which is where liitle house in the big woods is supposed to be.

Laura's husband, Almanzo, was from Malone, NY.

I had a teacher who made us read all those books- she grew up down the road from Laura Ingall's final home in MO. She had met her at a young age, and must have had a lasting impression!

Several sources show Cuba in Allegany County as the birthplace of Charles. How prevalent in the area the Ingalls' were I am not sure of. Obviously, Charles moved a few times over the span of his life. My wife's mother's family were early settlers in the area where I live and one of the first to settle west of the Genesee River. I don't know of any roads named after the family around here. If my memory is any good there was a girl at college in Alfred, NY that had an Ingalls as a distant ancestor.

If a company wants their product featured in a TV show or movie (i.e. product placement) they have to pay a promotional fee to the company making the show/movie.

On the inverse side of that, if a show or movie features a product without the promotional agreement, they can get sued for copyright infringement.

I pointed out to my wife recently while watching a movie that had a Caterpillar excavator working close in the background with the lettering all wiped out. They apparently had their ad budget whittled right down due to the slow down

Barnyard, I wonder how all these (un)reality shows, like Pawn Stars, Counting Cars, American Pickers, and all the rest, get by with showing so many brand names?

Somehow they get away with it, no way they could contact each mfg.

But every now and then they will blur out a brand on a T shirt or hat...

They must have some very good attorneys on staff! LOL

These days every scene with an old farm has a huge shiny new John Deere. Parked in a yard with one falling down barn, no crops, no animals, no other equipment.

They got around a lot! Plum Creek is just down the highway 45 minutes or so, all the town's they mentioned are all around here on the tv show. They do a parent every year at Plum Creek.

Part of the state highway here was named Lara Ingals scenic way or some such; for a time a lot of Asian/ Pasific groups would tour through here and want to see Plum Creek.

I was in a log cabin in SD where they were supposed to have lived, I believe it was a recreation of their cabin. Somewhere around Flandreu SD, not exactly there but around more or less.

Thought a place in Iowa claimed them too.

In the middle of the show Ford tractor started sponsoring them, they had several new Fords, a few red, then blue ones in several episodes. Unfortunately it was the roll out of the 6000 series, so that was kinda not so great..... One show they ended up with 5-6 Fords all pulled in front of the house. Was kinda neat.

There is a sign outside of Malone NY that says the house there was the home of Laura Wilder's father I believe. I had pictures on my old phone. They must've worked their way west.
