OT wedding present wood project

I have probably made 20 of these of the years-mostly as wedding presents! The 2 woods used are Babinga and Birch. I first glue up 1" strips the long way. When dry, I set a stop at 1" on my miterbox. I then flip every other one and glue up the short blocks. I then run them thru the thickness planer, and there you have it! I then apply 2 coats of food contact finish.

I made 5 cutting boards and then remembered I needed 6! So I made a trivet!

Thickness averages 3/4" as the stock was 4/4"! I use an oil based food contact finish by behlen to the tune of $28.95 QT!

omahagreg,

I'll take a round trivet. We got married a good number of years ago... and I'm preeeetty sure you never gave us a wedding gift. LOL!

They're really beautiful - nice work!!!

Always wanted to make a card table top. With chip holders around the outer edge, and a
checker board in the center of the table. Always thought i would just make the top, with no
legs. That way it could be set down on top of any other table. Preferably one that only had
one big leg at the center. 8 people around a circular table, needs plenty of leg room.
