Does your state charge a hazmat fee when buying welding supply's? I exchanged two welding tanks, and got charged 10.00 hazmat fee. If I thought it did some good I would fee better about it. Or is it just a state money grab to be used on other projects. Just carious I paid 75.00 for 110 size acetelene bottle, and 22.00 for 125 size ox bottle. Is this about what you guys out east pay? My rant for the day. Stan

I'm not sure about the acetylene but that oxygen is really hazardous. Be sure you don't inhale any of it.:) TD

I am not sure the state charges the Haz-Mat fee, it's the company filling the cylinders charging it. They claim that they have to charge this because it costs them so much to be in compliance with all the federal regs that they have to pass it on to the customer.I'd say your cost on refilling those cylinders is about right.Usually if I pick the cyls up myself they don't charge me, If they deliver they charge a fee per cylinder.

In PA, no fees. On O2, a 125 is $18.96 out the door, big bottles are $22.

Can't help with the Acetylene, I use propane.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT WELDING SUPPLIES, BUT IN NORTHEASTERN PA. I PAY $7.50 COMPLIANCE CHARGE FOR EVERY DELIVERY OF PROPANE DELIVERED. They tell me it's because of all the Gov. regulations they have to pass it on. Some companies word it different on the bills but it is still there. Too me that's just part of doing business but they will get it one way or another.

Guess I am lucky to live in Tennessee, Large Oxygen is $22.00 Large Acetylene $ 56.00 no other fees.

If it makes you feel better how about HAZ-MAT AND OR SUPPLY'S.

I did repair work on USPS vehicles for 31 years they switched to Voyager credit card system to pay me. I had nothing to do with the transaction all I wanted was my money but Voyager deducted 3% from my bill on the check they sent. I called USPS and asked about it they told me it was the cost of doing business. So I added Haz-Mat and or supply's to there total at 3%. They called me and ask Whuts dat I said its the cost of doing business

If a business runs a nice clean operation I don't think anyone minds paying a small reasonable fee BUT some go crazy with it.

We are a pretty small company and we have two people whose job is to keep us in complacence. Somebody has to pay for all of the extra government red tape(next week it is yellow tape, and then next month, they change it back to red.)

Hazmat seems like a charge like a fuel surcharge. If they were a cost of doing business why not raise the rate whether it be hourly, product price, mileage whatever. An added fee like that is a a one way street they do not go away or down only up. Look at a garbage bill from waste management sometime. They could not give me an answer why the charge isn't adjusted periodically when fuel prices drop but is when it goes up. They claim to base the charge on diesel but all the trucks in our area run on natural gas. Rant over sorry if I hijacked.

MN started out at a buck a cyl...supposedly to insure that users were compliant in how they transported cyl"s.....every so often it increases...now about 4 bucks or so...I don"t see that transport is any more secure tho...just throw it in the truck! But they get more bucks. REVENUE ENHANCEMENT, like usual! Dem"s never saw a tax they didn"t like.

I think if you check state law, you'll find there is no such thing as a "California Hazmat Fee" with regards to welding supplies. Like the many dubious "fees" tacked on to your cell phone bill, it is simply the vendor passing on what they deem to be the cost of complying with state, federal and/or local regulations. The money collected goes into the vendor's bank account, and may or may not represent what they are paying to the government in regulatory fees. Most likely, it's based not at all on regulatory fees but rather what they think their customers will stand for. Listing it as a "state regulatory fee" deflects blame on your beloved governor and legislature while improving their profit margin.

One might think that, when dealing with hazardous gases, complying with all the various and sundry safety regulations would simply be good sense and a cost of doing business. But the more of your expenses you pass on to your customers, the more profit there is for you. (Good luck tacking on a "state regulatory fee" onto your next mowing invoice!)

I live just south of Minneapolis/st.Paul, Minnesota, Last time I exchanged cylinders acetylene cost $80.00 oxygen cost $35.00 I think. There is a fee of $6.00 for hazard, doesn't matter if you get one cylinder or two, it is still $6.00. I would bet my cylinders are the same size as yours.

You may have your comment backwards. That oxygen is used for breathing all over the world. The air we breathe every day is around 21% oxygen.

I thought about transporting them my self. I just put them in the back of my pickup. put a old rim or tire next to them and off I go. With the proper cap I think you could drop one from a plane, and it wouldn't hurt it. Stan
