Pursuant to tight finances

On the New York CBS evening news, a feature is "living large".
The segment has been running every day for several years.
Usually featured is a lavish apartment near Central Park
In the 9-10 million dollar range.
Sometimes the feature is a lavish estate in the New York City
area in the 10-20 million dollar range.
Property taxes in the $100,000 category.
I don't know who lives in these places, but some people are
really taking in the dough to be able to live there.
The next story usually features the burgeoning homeless in the city,
or another big building fire displacing yet more people.
I get weary of news.

"The next story usually features...I get weary of news."

That's not news. That's a blatant attempt to push their agenda on you.

But I agree - news outlets have given up on journalism and are now just propaganda outlets.

Have been in the house during the "morning shows," lately. The way they act about the products and things they tout, and the lifestyles they show, they clearly don't live in the financial realm my wife and I do.

People spend money they don't have,on things they don't need,to impress people they don't like.

Everybody talks about wanting to live a simpler life, then they choose to do everything they can to complicate it.

In 1980 CNN first came into peoples homes via Cable TV.. Shortly after that someone said, Who would have thought that we need a 24 hour news channel? As time has passed, I think the answer is We don't! Prior to 1980 we had a couple hours of news on 3 channels per day. They seemed to get it all said and done. Now we have 24 hours of news on agazillion news channels. Since there is not enough news to keep them busy, they have turned in to a Reality TV Show (which isn't real either) and they have stuff that is not news. I got so tired of the poor content of the national news that I quit watch the news for 3 month. Then when I did watch it one morning, they had a segment on that wanted to know if you could wear the same clothes to work everyday and get away with it. My guess is most on this forum do dress the same everyday and never gave it a thought that we were getting away with anything.

The national news is a waste of time, energy, and bandwidth, IMHO

PS I miss Walter Cronkite

(quoted from post at 18:20:54 03/07/17) Most of us in Florida feel the same way about Miami,Orlando and Tampa!

Yep- Most of us in Western Colorado feel the same way about Denver, Boulder and Aspen! :x

Marylanders have been bled white trying to fix Baltimore. It often seems we only make people more dependant on the government. The school system is overwhelmed with problems money can't fix.

Don't I remember at one time NY city was talking about seceding from the rest of the state? Back in the 70s maybe. Sure would have been nice if they had done it.

I thought that were tother way round. Tha rest of New yawk was a talkin of succeddin from New Yawk city........

Tony Well said. I don t watch the news. The news media is in bed with the gooberment. RB

I mostly quit watching news a few months ago. I try to catch it around the weather time for a bit, and if they are doing a local story might stay for that.

But news has just become tabloid fodder, like the National Enquierer was. Anything to sell commercial minutes,

Blech.

I had been tiring of the one sided and inept investigations for a couple years, but certainly tipped over the edge of late.

Was a sad day this past Monday when I found the local station took Grit TV off their lineup and put a crappy old movie deal on instead. I was really enjoying the old Westerns lineup Grit had on.

That was real tv. ;)

I like your posts, I've followed your stuff here for years. But....

A little google tells me that NYC and the surrounding counties pay about 80% of the taxes in the state. They represent 64 % of the population.

So basically, 2 things: The big city folks are subsidizing the outstate folks. And they have votes to end any program they want.

That "most trusted man in America" had a lock on his audience. No one had a way to see if he was lying. He would not last 2 days now as we can find the real news from a verity of sources.
The year he retired he was given a lifetime achievement award for his efforts in promoting a world government.
If he was there at the battle of the bulge we would be speaking German if we wanted to talk to Europe at least.

If you've noticed me participating in more postings for the last few months, I too am tired of the main stream news propaganda.

(quoted from post at 21:02:39 03/07/17) Sure wish us "up staters " could declare a new state, having nothing to do with supporting NYC, and all of its corruption.
Loren

Ain't that the truth. Of course "upstate" doesn't mean Northern NY. "Upstate" ends south of Albany someplace. But yeah, cut us off from NYC, PLEASE!!!

People from New York State don't say "New Yawk". People from NYC say that.

Doesn't matter. 64% of the population living in a 50 mile radius of NYC is making rules for the rest of a highly rural state. 2/3 of a states population crammed into a tiny section of a state, overwhelming any common sense legislation, controlling a relatively vast rural area, making rules and laws that are abhorrent to the rest of the state...why would anyone want that? Take Wall St out of NYC and see how much taxes they pay. NYC should WANT to be a separate state. Think of the money they'd have to spend on themselves.

When they are paying 80 percent of your taxes, it counts.

You folks would have to pay a lot more, for a lot less, without the city folks. You are basically living on their plantation ????
