Hydraulic issues with loader

I recently bought an Allied 594 loader to put on a John Deere 3130 (2840), it didn't come with a spool so I bought a new one. I have the in and out lines hooked to the filter housing return and the line right above it on the side of transmission.

Now that I have it all plumbed up, all it does is jerk the loader an inch then draw the rpms down.

I have what I believe is a closed Centre spool (paperwork that came with it isn't really clear now that I'm reading it closer) because that's what tractor data says this tractor is but since I am using the other ports, does this make it open centre?

If I put the lift spool in float, the loader goes up.

doing more research, I'm starting to think I have an open centre valve but I need a closed centre. I'm going to have to run back to the farm tonight to check or its going to bug me all night

I'm thinking you're right. A lot of those have a plug that has to be changed to switch them from open to closed center.

ya that's what I'm thinking now to. The website and the instructions in the box don't match eachother so that's why I got them mixed up or I would have got the adapter plug while I was at the store.

I have seen some valves that you can convert to closed center with a plug. I think my prince valves are that way.

try reversing the input and output hoses happened at the place i worked at the oil was flowing the wrong way through the valve

Closed center has all the loads in parallel and no flow through the pump with system on the pump side of the valves at full pressure.
Open center has all the loads in series , pump is always moving oil at full flow and only enough pressure on the pump move that oil through the entire system and return the oil to the sump when at no load.

I believe you have and need an open center valve, otherwise the pump would be loaded all the time.

Recheck the plumbing. Are there any port marks on the valve?

Typically a valve will have the ports marked:

P=Pump
T=Return to tank
A=Cylinder
B=Cylinder

Sounds like P and T may be switched.

I mounted a new one on a JD about that size in the late 70's it did the same thing I called Duall mfg and they sent out a extra hose and a couple fittings, it hooked to the control valve and went down tot he bottom of the tyrans by a hyd filter there I think it was installed it and she worked perfect

Yes you need a closed center valve or have CC plug installed in valve.

Simple test for control valve is remove return hose from tractor. Aim open return hose in tractor hyd filter hole & with both control levers or joystick in neutral start engine and no oil should exit open return hose.

I switched the in and out lines around this morning and the loader did nothing. I pulled the plug out and it is the short open center plug so I'm heading out now to get the closed center plug.

No, an open center valve is not used on a closed center system because it causes a giant leak back to sump.
