We watched 2 of our grandkids last week for their parents went to Daytona to the race. I was in the shop but went to the house for a refill of coffee and the wife and the 2 kids were playing Monopoly on the dining room table. We started talking about the game tokens and it reminded me of a news story I heard on the radio of the contest to select a new piece to replace the thimble to reflect the "changing times". The game goes back to 1903 but Parker bros. made it popular in 1935. Most of the pieces are from that time frame but some have been changed already. So lets have some fun with this---- The battleship--replaced with a cruise ship with Baby Boomers and aging rock bands. The dog--he is safe because it is trendy to have dogs-the last Farm Fleet flyer I got the first 4 pages were just dog food. The 30's work shoe--replaced by a Nike walking shoe. Thimble--almost nobody sews anymore--replaced with a "smart phone". The symbol of the game--the top hat--replaced by a dude from South Chicago with his ball cap on backwards. The race car--replaced by a Toyota 4 door highbred. The wheelbarrow??--The cat??--The iron?? -------Tee

When I was in high school we took a field trip to the place where they made the pieces. I think we went to Watertown NY. They made a variety of pieces. I've got a bag of them at my parents old house somewhere. I remember a beaver, racecar, top hat, and I think even a pistol. I doubt the pistol would go over now. That was 26 or 27 years ago. I bet the pieces are made overseas now.

My wife sews and irons all the time. She really enjoys the sewing. She owns 7 sewing machines and has her own sewing room off the back of my shop.

Are these figure tokens original to the game? When I was a kid we played with a set that my dad had since ??? It had turned wooden tokens that were different colors. I always thought maybe they were the original playing pieces since set was pretty old.

I would think playing a game like this using the original design pieces would be part of the game/fun. I have a version that isn't new, maybe 30 yrs. old, but I can remember playing with the one my folks had which was a lot older, had wooden houses and hotels. Mine are plastic. Don't remember what tokens it had. The game I have here has cast metal tokens, a flatiron, top hat, dog, wheel barrel, work boot, race car, and rearing up horse and rider. Haven't played in years. I remember once, had to be back in the early 80 my brother and his wife were here and we played a game, was married so there was 4 of us. I happened to be right next to his wife and she started to loose so I slipped her some $$ "under the table", a little later she returned the favor. Soon we were way ahead of the other players. They were pi$$ed when they found out we were cheating, we couldn't stop laughing. Don't remember who actually won.

This game is probably from the late 70,s-early 80,s. They had wooden parts during WW II---Tee

The US prisoners in Germany would be allowed games from the states. I saw a program where maps of Germany were smuggled to the prisoners. inside monopoly game boards. Just incase any escaped. Stan

When I was 10 or 12 had three sisters and a brother. Four of us were playing the game and we made my little sister the banker. Had a block with slots in it and you could push little rubber letters in it. We made it to say "pay to the order of" hit it on the ink pad and we had checks. When you can borrow money from the bank the game is never over.

My wife made her wedding dress also with my mother's help. Would not let me see it till the wedding. Over 43 years ago.

My wife "quilts", but she and her friends claim to not "mend". If I cut and pin a patch on my jeans I'll then ask her to "quilt" it for me.
