Got the Cortizone Injection Wednesday

Well, I got the Cortizone Injection Wednesday. In talking with the Dr. before the procedure, she doesn't believe it will last very long if it does any good at all. It was what the Orthopedic Dr. wanted to try first. I couldn't believe there was no pain at all associated with it, felt a small pin puncture wound and a light burn for a moment but that was all. She told me that it may take up to 2 weeks before I see any real improvement in my hip, She really feels that my lower back is more of a problem (or at least as much of a problem) as my hip. I don't know what others feel about the VA but I have complete trust in the Chillicothe Ohio VA hospital. Keith
 
A couple of months ago, I had the L5 vertebra injected, a month ago I had L4 injected, and yesterday I had the left sacroiliac joint injected.

Today I felt pain free for the first time since last fall.

Going for one in my shoulder this month. I had one in October of 2016 and one in June of 2014. I only feel a little pick. The Doctor adds some numbing medicine with the cortizone so the pain relief is quick.
 
Just remember, it is NOT a fix. Cortizone is a massive coverall for many symptoms. Just a temporary pain reliever - temporary is relevant to your body's reception of the drug and whether it will work the same again. All the best to you (and others).
 
Im glad it was painless for you. Marilyn had an injection in her hip and it took three people to hold her down. I'm glad I wasn't there. The cortisone did work for awhile though. She did eventually get the hip replaced and it was very successful.

The doctors hands are tied by the insurance companies. They have to try shots and/or physical therapy first even though they know it won't do any good in the long run. Did I hear it right that Medicare now requires six months of physical therapy before a joint replacement? Correct me if I am wrong.
 
I'm aware of that. My wife has her lower back injected about twice a year.

We once had a young pastor in our church who told me that he'd complained to his dad that his car was wearing out.

His dad was not sympathetic, "Just wait until your body starts to wear out".
 
Hobo, the big toe joint is nothing compared to a spine injection. Surgery took care of the back,the toe is about once a year for four years.
 
Wife just got a new knee on Medicare- no physical therapy, cortisone shots or anything beforehand- just go do it.
 
When I went to the VA with hip pain, I had to under go about 6 months of physical therapy at a local facility which did little good, sometimes I limped worse leaving the clinic that I did coming in. I will say the therapists worked pretty hard trying to help me, but it just wasn't very effective. So, after several X-rays and a through examination by the VA orthopedic doctors I got a total hip replacement at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. It will be 5 years in May since the surgery and I have suffered no pain. I am careful, no jumping or carrying over 50 lbs and remember the doctor's stern warning, "Do not fall, ever".
 
Just remember. You asked for Ymag advice, and ignored 95% of it. Hope it works for you.
but.....Usually it works best for the doctors bank account.
 
Add Cinnamon to your vitamin/mineral supplements. I get mine from Swanson's mail order. Helps the body control B.S. Wonder why they make "Cinnamon" Rolls packed with sugar for breakfast? Whomever came up with that idea,way back when, was on track for balancing sweet and good health.........well sorta, sugar far outweighs Cinnamon content, but at least they tried. Grin.
