Getting ready for the upcoming season.

I bought this Deere 6100D a couple months ago hoping it will make a good brushhogging tractor for my business. First order of business is to widen it out a bit, get some wider tires on it and in the process lower it a couple of inches.

I had these 5" spacers/adapters custom made so I can use more common wheels on the tractor....wheels that I have many different sizes with cheaper tires. (those 320 90 R42 Goodyears that were on it are over $1200 each!).

I also switched out the 10-16 fronts for some 9.5L-15's that I had laying around.

(quoted from post at 10:15:05 03/02/17) All those smaller tires are going to make it rougher riding. Anyway, that has been my experience.
I'm sure it will ride a little rougher, but these tires are the same size I use on my other mowing tractors. I sacrifice a little ride for being closer to the ground out on the mountain sides...

(quoted from post at 10:37:41 03/02/17) What size were on there?

320 (12.4) 90 R42 radials on the rear, 10-16 on the front

Standard size for the rears is 18.4 x 34, but this tractor spent it's previous life pulling a baler on a flood irrigated CA farm...so they had the skinny tires on it w/spacers to ride the ridges. I wouldn't mind putting 34's on it, but Deere wants a fortune for wheels, then I need tires also. I am just using what I have available...and if I have a flat, I have a spare ready to go.

I'm not so sure. Those really tall, narrow tires don't have that much of a body to flex. And you're getting a wider tread, which makes a lot of difference. Might just be a wash.

(quoted from post at 11:34:54 03/02/17) How much did you lower it?
2" in the back, 3" in the front...not a whole lot, but every bit helps. It also gave me better speeds in the middle range for what I do.

The Power-Adjust rear wheels are a good touch..!

Weights or "Loading" the rears will improve the ride and help stabilize on hillsides..I prefer "Loading", myself..

I will use wheel weights if I need them. I fix my own tires if I have a flat, and pumping fluid is a pain....

(quoted from post at 14:30:55 03/02/17) May get good money out of the take off tires, people always looking to setup a sprayer tractor with skinny rubber.

No doubt....those tires are $1200 each and the wheels are probably $600 each...mama Deere doesn't give them away. I also have the 4 1/2" cast iron Deere spacers that I took off. Last summer when I was looking for some I think I was quoted around $1000 for a set from Deere. I think I will hang onto everything I took off for awhile and see how the tractor works out. If I like how it performs I will sell them, if not, everything gets switched back and it goes up for sale.

Nice workmanship! Are the rear wheel spacers steel or aluminum? If they are aluminum they will probably hold up, but I would keep an eye on them for fatigue cracks or loosening bolts.

The spacers are aluminum. A shop in Nevada made them for me last summer when I had the Deere 5525 FWA and was looking to widen it out. I had them put the steel studs in instead of just tapping holes due to the fact that I could be changing wheels rather frequently and was concerned about stripping the threads. I was further concerned about the use of hex socket cap screws, but they assured me that they had made a lot of spacers for the 3000-6000 series Deere and have had no problems. I plan on keeping a close eye on them...
